🕷NATHAN followed Cindy through the woods as she looked over her shoulder to see that his eyes were wandering everywhere. She let out a deep breath. "I wanted you to get out of that cabin to get your mind off things so stop being so paranoid. There's nothing to worry about out here."
"Fine, but when a grizzly bear comes out of nowhere-you're on your own. Have fun trying to escape from him." Nathan said, looking behind him once more. "Where are we headed to anyways?"
Cindy jumped onto the boulder, facing to him. "Don't you remember when we would come to the lake to have a barbecue? It was over ten years ago but I still remember it like it was yesterday. It was Morgan, Azari, Ricky, Brenda, Teresa, Natalia, Selena, Rosemary, Sienna and you and I. We were all kids having a blast without a care in the world. It was when you found that baby turtle in the water and you begged your Mom to let you keep it but she said no but then you asked your Dad and he said yes but you were still left confused on what to do."
Nathan pulled off a leaf from the tree branch as he squinted his eyes. "No, I don't really remember that."
"You met Francesca almost a year later, so I don't expect you to," Cindy pressed her lips together. "Everything was about Francesca from then on...you really didn't care about anyone else except her. C'mon, we're almost close."
She jumped down from the boulder, now beginning to quicken her pace before Nathan came beside her. "What do you mean everything was about Francesca? It wasn't, I was still the same person, I hung out with all of you-"
"But who just had to join along? Francesca. She was always there at every gathering when she had no right to." Cindy closed her eyes and clenched her fists. "Let's just drop it, okay? We're supposed to be having a good time while we're here-not talking about the person who got us here in the first place."
Nathan crossed his arms as he watched walk off without him. He quickly mumbled something before she spun back to him. "The lake is just up ahead. Are you coming or are you just going to stand there?"
"I'm coming." Nathan said, dropping his leaf as headed up the steep hill. As soon as he reached the top, he could finally see the lake. He saw the way Cindy's smile widened at the sight of it when she suddenly grabbed his hand.
Nathan let out a big oof as he took a small stumble before he finally ran with her. She stopped from running once she got to the edge of the water and immediately let go of his hand. She laughed. "The view still looks nice, doesn't it?"
He sighed, looking over at her. "Yeah, the view still looks nice."
Cindy bent down to untie her shoes as she kicked them off and stood up. "Are you ready to get in?"
"Woah-huh? I thought we were just going to admire the scene for a few minutes and then go back to the cabin?"
Cindy laughed again as she dipped her toe to check how the water was before she put both feet in. She let out a sigh as she played with her feet in the water. "Nathan, c'mon, we've been hidden for almost a month and we haven't been outside. Please just let us have some fun and have our fears be irrelevant, just for a moment."
"We can always come back some other time but, not now. I'm sorry, I'll wait for you over here." Nathan said.
"Wait," Cindy called out. "What's that on your arm?"
Nathan frowned, looking down at his arm but seeing nothing. "What do you mean? There's nothing there."
"Are you blind? Did you cut your yourself on a tree branch coming over here? You have a huge cut." Cindy said, reaching out for his arm.
Nathan kept a safe distance from her, examining his arm once again. "There's not a scratch on me."
"Yes, it's right here." Cindy said, quickly tugging his arm and pulled him in with her. She laughed at his expression of the feeling of the cold water. "Stop exaggerating big baby, you'll get used to it."
Nathan let out a shaky laugh. "You didn't even let me take off shoes, now they're all wet."
"You left me no choice," Cindy smiled. "Don't worry, once we're out of here you can wear my shoes."
He scoffed. "I'm getting out of here now." He groaned, hating the feeling of having shoes on while in the water when Cindy grabbed his hand and pulled him back in with her.
"Will you just stop being so scared for once? It's not healthy for you. We're alone, you have nothing to worry about. Please, just stay in here with me." She whispered, squeezing his hand.
Nathan bit his lip, wanting to laugh at Cindy's puppy eyes. He squeezed her hand back. "Fine. Let me just take off my shoes and shirt, alright?"
Cindy smiled. "I'll wait for you here."
