Description: Sirius is a paramedic and his team gets an urgent call about a five car pile-up on the highway. Sirius is shell shocked when he discovers his fiance in one of the wrecks.
Story:
It was 10:00 in the morning when Sirius's paramedic team got the call. There'd been a high speed car chase on the highway, resulting in a five car pile-up.Sirius, as the head paramedic, didn't have as crazy hours as some of his colleague, but he definitely could go without leaving his lovely fiance in the mornings before he woke up. He really just couldn't wait to get home to Remus at the end of every day. He was really looking forward to tonight especially, as Remus had said he had a date planned for the two of them.
Sirius and his team pilled into multiple ambulances and took off to the coordinates. When they got there, they got right to work. It was a grisly scene, but Sirius had seen this kind of thing before.
They worked their way through the cars, removing the doors and getting the people out. So far, on the third car now, there were no deaths yet, though numerous injuries. Sirius and a colleague headed to the fourth car, the one that seemed to have taken the brunt of the initial collision. The fifth car was that of the car chase driver.
Sirius's colleague headed over to that car while Sirius approached the fourth. He knew before it clicked in his brain that something was wrong. Of course he knew that car. It was parked outside of his house every day.
The familiar car was absolutely mutilated. Sirius hurried over and saw the state of the door, grabbing the tool he needed to saw it off. He could hear Remus crying on the inside.
"I'm here, Rey, I'm here," Sirius said.
Due to the terrible condition of the door, it took a little extra work to saw through and when he finally did, it was too wedged for him to remove it by himself.
"Somebody help!" He yelled, growing more frantic by the second. His colleague, Frank Longbottom, who'd just pronounced the driver of car five dead, hurried over to aid Sirius. Frank was bigger and stronger than Sirius and the two made quick work of the door.
Sirius hadn't noticed the tears starting to fall. "It's Remus," he whimpered to Frank.
Frank understood immediately. When they'd taken off the door, Remus spilled limply out, hanging suspended at an odd angle. He started to cry out in pain and Sirius was quick to get his arms under Remus and support him and get him in a neck brace.
Remus was bleeding badly and he whimpered at the contact of Sirius's arms at his back which had been scraped raw when he fell out of the door like he had.
Frank had hurried around to the other side of the car and forced the door open and was trying to dislodge Remus's legs from where they were crushed by the dashboard. At first, Remus groaned and cried as Frank and now a few others tried to remove him from the car.
"It's alright, Remus. Gonna be alright," Sirius said gently, trying to soothe Remus's pain just a little.
By the time they got Remus out of the car and onto a stretcher, he had stopped crying. Sirius wasn't even sure how much of the pain he could feel anymore, as he'd gone into shock from the blood loss before they'd reached the ambulance.
"Gonna be alright," Sirius told Remus forcefully, over and over as he worked his very hardest to keep the love of his life alive. "You have to be alright!"
He did everything he could, he really did. "Gonna be alright," he whispered to Remus in a broken plea as the light left his eyes.
He hadn't made it to the hospital.
Sirius walked from the hospital to Godric's Hollow, a thirty minute walk. He felt numb.
When he knocked on the door, James answered, grinning. Harry, a toddler of two years old sat on his hip.
"Sirius is here!" James called into his house where Lily was bustling about.
And that was it. That was about when it sank in. And he stood there, on the Potters' front porch, sobbing.
"Oh my god," James said, startled. He set Harry down and quickly ushered Sirius inside, wrapping his arms around his best mate who was shaking like a leaf.
"He's dead James, he's dead. It was a...a crash, earlier. He was...why didn't he stay home?" Sirius sobbed.
James didn't understand what he was saying. Or rather, he didn't want to.
"Sirius, what is going on?" James asked. Harry was getting scared at how his Uncle Padfoot was crying. Lily hurried into the room then to see her husband and Sirius embracing, Sirius practically in hysterics.
"Remus!" He cried. "He died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital!"
Silence.
No one spoke when they heard the news about Remus.

Silence.
There was no friendly chatter, no 'I love you's called softly from the sofa when Sirius stepped foot into their home a few days after it happened.
But what he found in the living room was a picnic basket and a romantic spread of food that had been left out too long.
Sirius sat down heavily. This was meant to be their date.
He noticed a note scrawled in Remus's handwriting next to the chocolate.
Hey love, I've left to run to the store. It seems we are out of wine and I wanted a special bottle for our date. If you're reading this after your shift, I shouldn't be long.
I love you and I'll see you soon. I can't wait to hear all about your day and all the people you've saved!
Love, Remus.
