Description: Sirius watches Remus fall in love with Tonks from the afterlife.
Story:
When Sirius fell through the veil, he didn't know what to think. He had died, he knew that, but he hadn't expected the afterlife to be like it was. Of course, he was elated to be with James, Lily, and Regulus again, but he couldn't shake the terrible hole in his heart that came with leaving Remus behind.
He soon settled into the rhythm of the afterlife, looking down on loved ones with his best friends. Lily had a habit of eating popcorn and commentating on Harry's life choices.
Though Sirius made sure to check on Harry, he spent most of his time watching over Remus. It broke his heart to see Remus dealing with his loss in solitude. Sirius wished he'd reach out to someone, or that someone would find Remus. Sirius realized that Remus must've grown quite used to dealing with his problems alone, and Sirius wished he wouldn't have to.
He knew from his own experience from when James died that Remus would be all torn up inside at being the last Marauder standing and Sirius knew that for how much hurt Sirius was feeling, Remus was feeling a whole lot worse.
And finally, Sirius's wishes were granted.
Along came a young witch named Nymphadora Tonks with bright bubblegum pink hair and a mischievous smirk that could've given Sirius himself a run for his money. She was pretty and funny and Sirius could only watch as she stole Remus's heart.
He watched as Remus fell in love with Nymphadora. He wanted so, so badly to be happy for Remus. He really did, but he couldn't keep the bitterness out of his heart. That was supposed to be him. He was the one that was supposed to hold Remus after the full moon. He was the one that was supposed to make his hot chocolate just the right way. He was the one that was supposed to kiss Remus and love him with all of his heart.
He could only watch with watering eyes as Remus and Tonks exchanged their rings at a small wedding gathering. He could only watch as Remus held his son for the first time with so much love in his eyes. He could only watch as Remus and Tonks stood their ground in the Battle of Hogwarts, their love strong and carrying them together to the next place as they died, leaving little Teddy Lupin behind.
Sirius could only watch.
You've met the person of your dreams, but you were the person of mine.
