Description: Remus gets hit by an opposite personality hex and Sirius has to figure out how to fix him.

Story:

Spells shot through the air around Sirius left and right. He had a crazed look in his eyes as he jumped and dodged, shooting spells over his shoulder and hoping they hit their mark. He'd seen Lily a few minutes prior, red hair knotted and flying around her hair as she dueled with expertise.

Had it really been close to an hour since he'd last seen Remus? His heart ached with fear, but he was forced to push it aside as he fought tooth and nail to get the other side of the battlefield. He had to hold on to the hope that maybe Remus was there, maybe he was safe. Maybe he wasn't one of the bodies he had to step over to get there.

The Order hadn't been prepared for this. They came to intercept a few Death Eaters from meeting to exchange harmful potions and they ended up walking into an ambush. The fresh graduates of Hogwarts were up to their necks in battle, holding off the Death Eaters while one of them apparated for help. Within minutes the entire Order had been summoned, but it wasn't enough.

They were all going to die.

Sirius wouldn't admit it to himself, he didn't have the time, but he was scared.

He stumbled along, bumping into someone, Death Eater or Order Member, he wasn't sure. He made it to a line of buildings that the injured Order Members had taken refuge in. Searching around, eyes flitting around to every corner, he searched for Remus.

His ears were ringing and all he could hear was crying and screaming as colors sparked in front of his eyes. But none of it mattered when he saw Remus sitting against the wall, staring blankly out at the battle field.

"Oh thank fuck," Sirius muttered but he couldn't even hear himself over the loud noises of the battlefield and it left him to wonder if he'd muttered anything at all.

"Remus!" He cried, collapsing to his knees to assess the damage. Remus didn't react, so Sirius shook his shoulders, begging him to look at him. Remus's head rolled around to look at him lazily and Sirius could see that he wasn't all there.

He reached up his hand to cup Remus's cheek, gazing fiercely into his eyes, but Remus only blinked slowly. He was far away from the battlefield.

A great crash rang out from above them and Sirius hunched over quickly, pulling Remus into his chest to shield him from the explosion over their heads. Rubble rained down and Sirius covered his head while he leaned over Remus's unresponsive form.

Sirius stayed like that until the dust settled and the sounds of battle faded.

Lily and James came to find them when the fighting was done and they went home to their separate houses. Sirius, bone tired and slightly traumatized, pulled Remus along behind him as he entered their cottage through the front door.

Remus's foot dragged behind him as he followed behind Sirius taking baby steps, eyes unfocused and unseeing. Sirius helped him into bed and made sure he was tucked in just right before he crawled into bed beside him.

When he woke up in the morning, Remus was already gone. Sirius sat up, puzzled, as he saw the covers were thrown aside carelessly. First of all, Remus was usually the one that slept longer and second, if he did wake up first he always made his side of the bed.

Sirius rubbed his eyes and got out of bed, hopping around as he pulled on his socks and lumbered down the stairs. Remus was pacing angrily by the window, eyes cloudy, demonstrating the storm brewing in his head.

"Remus?" Sirius asked, eyebrows pinched together in worry.

Remus turned his head sharply, scowling. "What?"

Sirius was taken aback. "What's the matter? What did I do? Are you...are you feeling okay?"

Remus rolled his eyes. "You only ever do wrong things." With that, he stormed out the front door, shoving his hands into his pockets as he walked down the road.

Sirius blinked back tears. That stung. He hadn't any idea what had gotten into his Moony. Why was he acting so strangely?

Sirius remembered the vacant stare in Remus's eyes the night before and he hurried to write a letter to Lily, sending it along with his owl.

James and Lily arrived through the floo not long after. "Thank Christ you're here, I don't know what's gotten into him but he was angry and mean, and you know Moony, he's never—"

James cut off his rambling with a pat on the back. "Where is he now?"

Sirius was just about to explain how he stormed out and went on a walk to cool down when Lily pointed out the window. "There he is," she said. "You're right, he looks quite peeved."

When Remus entered the house, he huffed upon seeing the new arrivals. "Oh great, it's you guys."

James spluttered while Lily put her hands on her hips. "Excuse you, what is your pro—"

"Save it."

"Wha—"

"I said save it!" Remus shouted, hands balled into tight fists. "What's so goddamn hard to understand?"

"Ah, I see what's happening here," James spoke from where he'd been carefully analyzing Remus's behavior. "I just studying a case like this earlier in the week at the Auror Training Center. I'm quite sure it's a jinx. Can't remember what it's called, but it switches the personality of the victim. Remus would never act like this because it's the opposite of his personality."

Sirius let out a huge sigh of relief. "So you know how to fix it?"

"Yeah, hang on." James twisted on the spot, apparating away and leaving Sirius and Lily to awkwardly stand across from the fuming Remus.

James returned a few minutes later with a case file in hand. He flipped to a certain page, biting his lip in concentration and drew his wand. He cast the counter curse on Remus, who stumbled back, blinking the confusion out of his eyes.

"What the hell..?" He trailed off examining the crescent indents in the palm of his hand from where he was clenching his fists so hard.

"Are you feeling better Moony?" Sirius asked, approaching carefully.

"Yeah, I...what happened, love?"

Sirius debated telling him, but knew it would only make him feel terrible, so he decided on "ignorance is bliss."

"Oh nothing, don't you worry your pretty little head."
