Description: The Marauders and Lily go for a road trip around the UK.

Story:

"How much clothes do you need Sirius?" James asked, arms crossed and watching as Sirius threw almost his entire closet into his suitcase.

"I need options, James," Sirius said.

"No, we need car space. We'll have at least four more bags in the van."

Sirius made a face and removed one shirt. James scoffed.

"You're asking too much of me," Sirius complained.

The four of them had just graduated high school earlier in the year and they wanted to go on a road trip before they had to be adults and be responsible. Peter hadn't wanted to come along.

James, Lily, Remus, and Sirius got a flat together straight out of school. It was small, a two bedroom place, but it worked for them. Peter still lived with his parents and he visited when he could.

James left Sirius to his own devices and went to check on Remus, who had packed ages ago and sat in the living room reading a book with a cup of tea.

"Alright, Rey?" James asked.

Remus looked up, disoriented for a moment before he'd realized that James was talking to him.

"Oh. Yeah."

James flashed him a smile. "Sirius is trying to pack the whole flat, I reckon."

Remus sighed. "I gave him a list of exactly what he'd need."

"What would we do without you, Moony?"

Remus smiled, heart warmed, and shrugged.

James slipped out of the room and went to his room where Lily was fussing with her bag, trying to make sure she didn't forget anything.

James came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her, kissing the top of her head. "Stop worrying, love, I'm sure we've got everything packed."

Lily sighed and turned around, laying her head on James's chest and he rested his cheek on her head.

"I know," she murmured. "Let's just go before I think of something else."

James chuckled and let her go and she zipped her bag closed and the two of them grabbed their bags and went to put them in the car.

In the time James had been in his and Lily's room, Remus had managed to talk Sirius into unpacking half of his unnecessary luggage and they were waiting for them by the car.

"Ready, you lot?" James asked.

"Yep!" Sirius said as Remus saluted.

They all climbed in the car, James driving with Lily in the front seat and Sirius and Remus in the back. They set on their way and drove through a Starbucks to get their special coffees and teas.

They drove for a few hours, stopping every once in awhile to use the restrooms or to take a walk through a scenic trail.

They stopped in a diner for dinner and Remus sat with his head on Sirius's shoulder, falling in and out of sleep as they waited for their food. The other three talked in hushed tones about finding a motel for the night while Sirius sat with his arm around Remus's waist protectively.

They pulled up to a motel not long after the sun set and got a room with two beds and Sirius woke Remus up long enough to get in the room and to get his shoes off.

In the morning, they drove up to a coffee shop and then set out again. Lily took a turn at driving and she cranked the radio and the lot of them sang at the top of their lungs, smiling and laughing.

Sirius stuck his head out the window like a dog and enjoyed the way his long black hair whipped around in the wind.

After awhile, Remus got out his book and Sirius rested his head against the window and put his feet up in Remus's lap.

When they stopped for lunch, James braided Lily's red hair just like she'd taught him on Sirius's head. They had stopped in a nice little town with shops that Lily wanted to look at. James had groaned at first, but quickly grew to enjoy it more than Lily, and Remus and Sirius walked behind the two of them, laughing.

When they got back to the car, Lily had a few bags of clothes and James had a couple full of funny little nick-nacks that he was way too excited about. He got a little flower to put on the dash that moved back in forth in the sun.

They weren't really driving with any specific destination in mind. They were in it for the journey and the bonding.

They had a lot of fun that week driving around the country. Lots of memories were made and stories shared.

They decided to make it an annual tradition to travel somewhere together after that.
