Description: Sirius has been struggling with depression and hits an all time low when he receives a letter from his mother telling him he's been disowned. **Warning: Mentions of suicidal thoughts/actions. I will mark the passage with double asterisks**

Story:

Sirius hadn't been himself in a long time. It was apparent to everyone around him. He'd find himself staring off distractedly, falling asleep in class, needing to work harder to get his face muscles to pull into a smile.

The Marauders noticed the change after he came back from Christmas break. They'd been expecting him to be moody and sensitive the first few days after break like he usually was when he went home, but it lasted a lot longer than a few days.

He dropped out of quidditch not long after they returned from break and James had to scrambled to find another beater mid-season.

One morning, about a month after break, Sirius's family owl stopped in front of him. He stared at it, cautiously curious. He saw it across the Great Hall at the Slytherin table all the time delivering letters to Regulus, but the owl hadn't made a stop at the Gryffindor table in quite some time.

James was too busy stuffing his face with bacon to notice, and Peter never noticed anything in the first place, but Remus watched Sirius carefully.

With trembling fingers, Sirius untied the letter from the owl's leg. He sighed in relief when he saw it wasn't a howler.

It was addressed Sirius Orion Black.

Sirius ripped the letter open and unfolded it, his eyes following the words as he read it silently. By this point, James had understood the situation and was watching also.

Dear Sirius Orion Black,

I am regretfully writing this letter to you today because you have crossed a line. You have disgraced the Noble House of Black too many times to be forgiven. You are a disappointment, a disgrace, and a load of scum that I might find on the bottom of my shoe. It's such a shame you couldn't turn out more like your dear brother Regulus...

Your father and I have decided that we no longer think of you as our son. You are hereby disowned from the Noble House of Black. I have burned your portrait from the family tree. You are no longer welcome at Grimmauld Place, nor at any Noble House of Black family gatherings.

Signed,

Walburga Black

Sirius's eyes watered dangerously and he stood and walked right out of the Great Hall. James was quick to jump up and follow him, but Remus's attention was on the letter that Sirius dropped on his way out.

He picked it up and read it over quickly, heart aching for Sirius when he was done.

James ran back toward where Remus stopped outside of the Hall. "I lost him, he slipped away into a passageway somewhere. I dunno where he went."

Remus silently handed over the letter and James read it. He clenched his fists when he was finished reading it.

"I bleeding hate that bitch so much. I hate how much she hurts him."

"I know James, I know," Remus said solemnly.

The two went back into the Great Hall to finish their breakfast with Peter, giving Sirius some time to be alone. It was a nice Saturday morning, one of the first Saturdays in awhile that they didn't have detention.

They were planning on sneaking out of the castle and getting butterbeers at The Three Broomsticks, but when Sirius didn't make his way back to them, they started to get worried.

"Well where would he have gone?" Remus asked, his voice steady, but his face betraying just how worried he was.

"We could check the map," Peter suggested.

"Brilliant idea, Pete!" James praises, racing off to the dormitory to grab their pride and joy. He returned a minute later (they were sitting in the common room) and he spread the map out before them.

"I solemnly swear I am up to no good," he commanded and the ink spread out from the center and they each took a corner and started searching for Sirius's name on the map.

"Got him," Remus said, pointing to the Astronomy Tower. A pit started to form in his stomach as his mind jumped to the worst case scenario of what he was doing up there.

"Mischief Managed," James said and packed up the map. Remus stopped him with a look.

"Let me," he said meaningfully. James looked pained, but he let Remus go after Sirius by himself anyway, sitting back down at the couch next to Peter and opened up the map again.

Remus made quick work of getting up to the Astronomy Tower, taking secret passageways to cut his time in half.

He pushed open the door to the tower and gave his eyes a second to adjust to the light. He didn't see Sirius at first, but he could hear him sniffling and crying.

**He stepped forward to investigate and froze when he saw where Sirius was at. He was sitting precariously on the edge of the railing, his feet dangling over. His hands were tensed on the rail and Remus could just tell by looking at him that he was planning on jumping.

"Sirius, love, get down from there please."

Sirius jumped, almost tipping right over the side, but he caught the railing quickly. That split second where Sirius might've fallen caused Remus's heart to jump to his throat and he was choked and couldn't make a sound.

His feet didn't work for a second either, but when they did, he was by Sirius's side in seconds, helping him down.**

Sirius collapsed into his arms sobbing. Remus just sat there and held him long after he stopped crying, until he stopped trembling.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Sirius whimpered, burying his face in Remus's chest. He couldn't bear to look him in the eye.

Remus kissed the top of his head and rubbed his back soothingly. "You don't have to be sorry, Sirius, I understand. Just know that I love you and I'll support you no matter what."

Sirius was quiet.

"Just promise me you'll talk to me if you're ever feeling this way again. Your family is terrible and they don't deserve you. James, Pete, Lily and I, we're your family. And Mr. and Mrs. Potter. Do you understand me?"

Sirius nodded.

"Promise me," Remus pressed.

"I promise," Sirius's voice was scratchy.

Remus squeezed Sirius a little tighter, just to let him know he was there. "I love you so much, Sirius," Remus said again.

"I love you, too," Sirius's voice was muffled.

"And I'll always be here for you."

Sirius allowed himself a tremulous smile. "Thank you Remus. For everything."

Remus only smiled and kissed him again.
