—————(Weeks later) Nya's POV—————
"Ow!" I cry as y/n hits my arm. It's only been a few weeks since Sensei started training y/n, but man, that kid's a natural. "I need to start wearing padding."
"Sorry," y/n says. "I'll go lighter next time."
"What're you two up to?" Jay asks as he comes into the training room.
"Just training," I reply.
"Cool," he answers, then casually sits nearby to watch. "Has Sensei taught you how to use your powers yet?"
"No, but he said I'd start learning sometime this week," I say while blocking a punch from y/n.
"Hey, sis!" Kai shouts as he and the rest of the gang come bursting through the door and into the training room. "Sensei's letting you and y/n practice with us today!"
"Really?" Y/n asks with wide eyes.
"Yeah, really," Cole says. "He wants you guys to learn a bit about spinjitsu."
"Alright, students!" Sensei says as he enters the room with Lloyd by his side. "Grab a katana!"
All six of us grab a weapon from the rack, and face our master respectively.
"Turn to an opponent. Five minutes. Go."
I turn to Jay, bow, and draw my hand back to prepare for our practice fight. He makes the first move, but I block it easily. A few minutes into the bout, I send Jay's sword flying.
"Nice one," he says, then goes to pick it up. "I can't believe how much you've improved!"
"Thanks," I mutter, blushing.
Sensei claps his hands to get our attention. "Weapons down! Everyone head to opposite corners of the room, except Nya and y/n, who will watch."
Y/n and I join Sensei at the front of the room. When Sensei gives the okay, the other ninja shoot their elements at the people in the opposite corners. I watch with jealousy as they block and attack with fists of glowing power.
Without planning to, all four of them shoot their element at the same time towards the middle, and once the powers collide, a blast erupts, sending everyone flying backwards into the wall.
"Sorry," Cole mutters, his face pressed against the wooden planks. "I don't think we meant to do that."
I giggle. It was kinda funny.
"Jay, get your butt off the ground," Sensei says, whacking him with his staff. "Y/n, Nya, you will be facing off, and the rest of you can give them feedback."
———-y/n's POV———
Nya and I get into a ready stance, and once Sensei tells us to, we fight using hand to hand combat. We land a few lunches on each other, but then Nya suddenly sends a sphere of green energy my way, which I dodge by dropping to the ground.
"You did it!" I cheer as I get up off the floor. "You used your power!"
Nya stares at her hands in shock. "I can't believe it."
I can barely contain my happiness, until Sensei whacks me in the head with his stick.
"Again!" He orders.
"Okay, okay, yeesh."
I back up and prepare to fight Nya again. At the cue, I attempt to kick my opponent, but she's too quick for me. She grabs my leg and spins me around, and I fall on my stomach.
"Come on, come on, come on," someone urges under their breath.
I scramble back up to my feet and attack again. Nya uses her new power to shoot flares of energy at me, but I manage to avoid them. A few of them hit me, but they didn't hurt as much as they should. I guess I just have a high pain tolerance.
Eventually, Nya lands a kick on me that knocks me to the ground, marking her the winner. Our mini audience cheers, and I force a smile. Nya helps me up, and we bow to each other to show respect.
"Well done, Nya!" Sensei congratulates. "Session dismissed."
The boys pat Nya on the back and they excitedly lead her out of the room, with Sensei close behind. They joke merrily with her as if she's finally become one of them, which makes me feel a little left out. I want to join in on congratulating my teammate, but I'm a little too bummed out to fake pure bliss.
"You okay?" Lloyd asks. I hadn't noticed he was still standing here.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I say with a sigh, then start picking up the katanas scattered around the room. The others never remember to put them away, so I'm normally the one to clean up.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Lloyd asks as he helps me.
"Yup, never better."
"That doesn't sound very convincing."
"It's nothing I can really explain," I admit, putting the last sword in the rack. "But I'll be fine."
Without warning, Lloyd pulls me into a hug.
Surprised, I just stand there. After a moment or two, I pull away.
"What was that for?" I ask, confused.
"You did great today," he explains. "And I want you to know that."
I look at the floor. "Not really... I... I wasn't good enough."
"Y/n, you started training only a few weeks ago and you're already amazing."
"I'm the worst on the team."
"Their success isn't your failure! Just because they're better than you doesn't make you any less valuable."
I don't answer. I should probably stop feeling sorry for myself and go get something to eat.
"Come on, let's go have lunch."
I smile and follow Lloyd out of the room. It's nice to have a friend my own age.
—————-a/n——————
Question time! What should y/n's power be? Do you want a specific element or should I just write y/e ("your element") so everyone can choose their own?
On a different note, how is everyone?
