Nya's POV

It's been nearly a year since the final battle, and we've all been enjoying the peacefulness. Morro joined the team, and he swore never to possess anyone else unless it's an emergency. He now just hangs around as a semi-transparent ghost.

Y/n became the silver ninja, and has gotten quite good at controlling the element of light (particularly the light from the moon, for some reason). Lloyd has also been training—he's getting one step closer to mastering the element of darkness with every day that passes. We've started calling him the purple ninja, because it matches the colour of his power, but he doesn't really like the nickname. Oh, well... he better get used to it, because we're having a purple gi made for him.

Jay and me started dating as soon as we got home from the Dark Island. He takes me out for dinner every Wednesday evening, and plans surprise date nights for us at least one other time each week. And by the way he's been acting all day, I'd say he's got one in store for tonight.

"What are you doing?" I ask, walking into the kitchen. Jay's fiddling with something.

"I—uh—nothing!" He stutters, putting whatever he was playing with behind his back.

I raise an eyebrow. "Well, that was believable," I say sarcastically.

"Um..."

"Jay! There you are!" Cole says, coming into the room. "We need you for a sec."

Cole pulls Jay out of the room, leaving me in the kitchen feeling very confused. Kai walks past me, but then he notices my puzzled expression.

"What's the matter?" He asks.

"Jay's acting weird," I reply, then I realize who I'm talking about. "Weirder than usual."

"Maybe you guys will be having a date tonight."

The back of my mind tells me that can't be it—he looks way too spastic, and Jay's normally smooth about these things—but I ignore it.

"Well, if that's the case, I'm gonna go pick out something to wear. Wanna come?"

"No thanks, I—" he cuts himself off and looks down at his phone, which had just made a noise. "On second thought, sure."

Huh, that's strange—Kai never agrees to help me with my outfits, I think, but I shrug it off. Maybe he's just being nice today.

"Great! Let's go look through my closet."

———ten minutes later———-

"How about this one?" I ask, stepping out of the washroom with a cute red romper on.

Kai considers it, but then shakes his head. "Nah, it's not special enough."

Drop my arms in exasperation. "This is the fourth outfit you've made me try on! Why are you so concerned with what I wear tonight?"

"No reason..." he says casually, then holds up a pink dress. "How about this?"

"It's too fancy. If I wear it, Jay will know I was expecting the surprise."

"But don't you always know when he's planning something?"

"Yeah, but he doesn't know that I know! I like that he tries to surprise me. It's sweet."

"Yeah, I guess so," Kai sighs, the shoves the garment in my face. "Now put on the damn dress!"

I giggle and take the hanger. I close the door to the bathroom and get changed, then come out so Kai can see.

"So?"

"That's the one," he nods. "Wait—you need one more thing..."

He takes a flower out of the vase in the hallway and tucks it behind my ear. "Now you're ready."

"Thanks bro," I say.

He pulls me into a hug. "My baby sister is all grown up!"

"What the—are you crying?"

"N-no!"

I silently question what's going on, but I don't press him. Once he lets go of me, I head out of the room.

"Hey, Nya!" Jay says, as we both walk into the kitchen. "Guess what I—wow. You look gorgeous."

"Thanks," I mutter. "You look pretty good yourself."

He smirks, and spins around to show of his suit. Wait, suit? Jay never wears a suit, no matter how fancy of a place it is we're going.

"I have something planned for us," he says.

"I can tell," I laugh, gesturing to his outfit. "Where are we going?"

"You'll see..."

Jay takes my hand and pulls me outside. We jump down from the bounty, then he goes behind me and he covers my eyes with hands.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Just go with it."

I can't tell for sure, but I think he's taking me around the other side of the parked bounty. If I remember correctly, there's a forest on the starboard side of the ship. After what feels like an hour, he finally lets me see again.

"Surprise!" He whispers.

"Oh, Jay..." I sigh. "It's beautiful."

The trees are all decorated with lights and ribbons, and there's flower petals sprinkled all around.

"You did all this for me?"

He nods. "I would do anything for you."

"Aww," I mumble, hugging his arm and resting my head on his shoulder.

"Come on, I wanna show you something," he says. "And then there's something I need to ask you."

"Oh?" I question as we walk into the woods, our fingers intertwined. "And what's that?"

"You'll see," he says with wink.

We don't have to go very far before I notice a flickering of golden light. I stop to see what it was, and then more little glowing dots appear all around us.

"Fireflies?" I ask.

"Yep," Jay says.

"They're so pretty," I breathe. "What was it you wanted to ask m— oh!"

When I turned towards Jay, he was down on one knee, holding out a little box. Inside of it, there was a ring.

"Nya, you make me so happy every single day. We've only been dating for eleven months, but I've loved you long before that. I want to spend my life with you, so... will you marry me?"

I'm speechless. I wasn't expecting this. As soon as I get over my shock, I leap into his arms.

"Yes!"

I suddenly hear cheering behind us, and when Jay and I turn around, there's the rest of the team, all applauding and taking pictures.

"I'm so happy for you, sis!" Kai says with a sniffle.

"Stop crying!" I order with a laugh.

"I'm not crying! My eyes are just... sweating."

I give him a playful punch on the shoulder. "Under all that spiky hair, you're just a big softie."

After a lot of hugs and well wishes, Zane holds up a picnic basket. We set down the blanket, and enjoy a delicious meal together. I turn to Jay and smile; we've got the best family I could ever ask for.
