-- Author's Note: Part 2 of Zenigata x Thief!Reader! I kept it on a vague timeline for funsies, but I imagine this takes place after your confrontation with him in the detention cell. Of course, you're the reader, so you can picture it how you want! And if this still isn't your cup of tea, remember, more requests are in progress!--

Inspector Zenigata was many things, but a lovesick sap was not one of them. Maybe love impaired. Maybe love affected. But not lovesick!

He definitely didn't like you. No sir. You were a crook, a criminal! No better than any thief, and you deserved any thief's fate: A life behind bars. Or, a few years behind bars, followed by a slow reformation.

He was silently hoping for the second.

It was a nightmare! When he was chasing Lupin, the first thing on his mind was always the phrase, "Shut up!" When he was chasing you, he couldn't even come up with something on that simple of a level. Though, he suspected you found that to be part of the fun. Just like your mentor to each annoying detail.

You'd stolen two of his watches already, which was tedious enough, but did you have to get so damn close to do it?!

He thought often about how it would be if things were different. Would you even like him? Maybe not, but... At least you'd have a clean conscience. At least he wouldn't have to chase you around like a dog that wasn't meant to get outside.

Which brought him where he was now. It was supposed to be a business trip/meeting for some boring CEOs at this 5 star cruise, but while Zenigata might've been stupid, he was not blind. He knew there was more beneath the surface. Especially when one of the CEOs seemed to ask too many questions, and seemed to focus too much on a certain locked door.

If it was just a normal business ordeal, he didn't imagine you'd go through the trouble of disguising yourself to get in. It was a nice joint, sure, but was it worth sneaking yourself in with a crowd of stuffy nobodies, knowing there'd be security everywhere?

When he saw you finally enter that room when you thought no one was looking, he put two and two together.

"The conference is down the next hall."

You jumped at his voice, turning to him but holding something behind your back. "Oh! Mr. Officer, you startled me. I was just..." Zenigata looked at the heavy old computer behind you as you continued to speak smoothly. "I was grabbing some charts before my presentation started."

"What's the presentation on?" Zenigata was gonna feel real dumb if he had misjudged this character, and it turned out you were at home right now.

Your flash drive was in sight now. "Completely illegal weapons."

Oh God, it was you. His hand twitched like it was already ready to arrest you, but he stopped. This either meant you were the greater good here for stealing something so volatile, or you were even worse, selling these back to someone else. Either way, he'd have to stop you to find out.

He pretended not to hear you as an idea clicked in his mind. "Would you like me to escort you to the correct room?"

Your wide, angry eyes said enough, but you stretched out a false smile. "If you would, please."

He opened the door for you, noticing how you were hesitant to have him behind you. Oh, you definitely stole these with bad intent. As you exited the hallway, you took his arm, a move that he almost recoiled from in surprise.

"Mr. Officer, could we drop by the deck first? It's so beautiful to watch the stars this time of night."

He saw right through your disguise. He knew you had a plan to go with this. He knew there was an ulterior motive.

... But...

"I-I suppose we could. Just for a bit, since that meeting should start soon. I, uh, wouldn't want you to be late."

You grinned. "Don't worry, I wouldn't miss it for the world."

You let go of his arm and turned towards the deck, opening doors that led to the cool night air. No one was really supposed to be out here while important matters went on below deck, but it was no big deal. Not if he was hoping for more romance out of you. Ah, not that he wanted any! Just to see how it went.

Zenigata joined you at the railing, looking at the blurred line where the ocean met the sky. You were right, it was nice. But it wasn't enough to make him forget where he was. "We should probably--"

"Inspector, do you think love can bloom on a battlefield?" Zenigata made a face at the question, but you kept your eyes focused on the sky. He didn't like where this was headed, but he... What DID he think of it?

"I... I... Um... I dunno, you can't really help falling in love so... Love isn't too different."

You smiled. "That's nice to hear." You turned to him, your smile turning smug. "Especially from you."

Zenigata flushed as you came closer to him. He felt a shaky laugh rising up in his chest, but it just wouldn't come out.

"Don't take this too personally!"

You gave him a quick kiss, only long enough for him to back away in shock when it touched his lips. He stared at you with wide eyes, raising his arm over his mouth, though he wasn't sure if it was to stop you from kissing him again or to linger on the feeling of it.

"Now that I've done it, I have to confess before you get upset." You reached over the railing, and he halfway questioned it, but couldn't entirely form words right now. Your fingers latched onto something slender. A rope. Maybe a wire? "That was definitely to distract you."

He fumed and dove back towards you, but it was too late. The cord from the helicopter had already raised you out of his reach, and you shook your head in mock pity. "DON'T THINK YOU'RE DONE HERE!"

"Did you want another one?" you grinned, making sure the flash drive was safely in your bag. You were completely above the water by now, and held on tight. "I will say, though... It wasn't just for a distraction. Ciao!"

Zenigata blinked at the empty air where you'd once been hovering, now carried away by your allies. He was furious. He had to find the nearest phone to call backup, he needed at LEAST 20 shipments of handcuffs in by TONIGHT, he--

It wasn't just for distraction?

Zenigata melted to the floor as the words set in. Maybe getting over you would be harder than he thought...?
