--Author's Note: This one is a fun idea, requested by @cosmicsgal recently. I won't say too much to spoil it, but the idea here is that our reader is from current times, and of course something like that is going to intrigue our gang, so let's get into it! The requester asked for either Lupin or the whole gang, so read this however you want, but I'll try to keep it vagueish. --

The first thing you heard when you woke up was metal hitting the ground. It echoed, and did little to quell the headache forming at your temples. Who was dropping that stuff at this hour?

Peeking your eyes open just slightly, you wondered. What hour WAS it, exactly? The sun was up, but you swore you'd just gotten into bed. Had that silly spell you read about really worked? You felt embarrassed for questioning it if that was actually what had brought you here, but felt even sillier still for imagining you'd thrown yourself into a life of heists and romance. How silly would that be?

Then you smelled the smoke. Nobody in your house had even touched a cigarette. Either you had suddenly taken up sleepwalking, or it HAD worked. "Jigen?" you muttered against your better judgement. Sitting up, you were greeted with two perplexed faces.

"You--"

"Why do you know his name?" The other spoke. Goemon. Oh, you were gonna pass out for sure now.

You knew better than to piss off people like this, and scrambled for a response. "I saw you on the news! Yeah, I just was going through stuff on my phone and saw your face, and I wouldn't forget a face like that!"

"A half-obscured face," Goemon reminded you.

Jigen's mouth twisted a certain way, but before he could even say anything, two more people came into the room, enticed in by the chatter.

"Oh, you're awake!" Lupin grinned. "Sorry that Fujiko hit you with the car," he giggled.

She shot him a side glance, promising to chew him out for that later. "Who are you, do we need to call anyone for you?" You heard Jigen mutter something implying the sooner you got out of their hair, the better.

"No, I can call someone myself. I don't know how the signal is here, though, if I'm being honest."

Again, looks were exchanged, but words didn't come.

You reached into the pocket of your jeans, stiff and uncomfortable from sleeping in them, and pulled out your phone. Now that got a rise.

Jigen plucked it from your hands first, before you'd even unlocked it. "Okay, hold on, I'm not letting just anybody bring a bomb into this room, whether or not Lupin hit you."

"Fujiko," Lupin corrected.

"It's not a bomb! I mean, it overheats sometimes, but that's just because 3D games take a lot of data."  Jigen looked more intrigued than before, now.

"Data? Like a computer?" Fujiko asked. "How would you have a-- Are you like a researcher or something?"

"What?" You blinked at her, baffled. "No, I'm-- I'm no good with computers in that sense, it's just my phone."

"A handheld telephone," Goemon muttered. "Suspicious."

Despite the situation, you laughed at how he glared at the tiny box, a charm on your phone swinging menacingly towards him as he took it from Jigen.

"Where'd you cop one of these, anyhow?" Lupin joined you on the bed, snatching the phone from Goemon too. Did any of them ask before doing something?

"The... Apple store?"

"A grocery store?"

"No, the-- The company that makes them. Although I used to have a Droid."

Fujiko looked like she believed you less and less, but was never one to shut down an interesting story. Especially one that might've had money in it.

"If you give it to me, I can unlock it and show you it means no trouble, honest!"

"Be my guest," Lupin replied.

You tapped at the screen as the four seemed to crowd around you, interested in how there were hardly any buttons or levers to be seen. You cycled through different apps, explaining it like you might to a child. This is a game, this is where the notes are, this is where...

"What about the music note?" Fujiko pointed at the bottom of the homescreen. "I can guess what it does, but at this point who knows?"

She had a point. Still, you opened the music. "I mostly listen with earbuds. I'm kinda shy about my taste sometimes." Like that would stop them. By this point, Lupin had learned enough through observation to take matters into his own hands.

"You guys recognize any of these?" He didn't seem to really direct it at anybody. "I've got two points."

"Beach Boys?" Fujiko smirked.

You flushed. "It was a joke. For a pool party! Normally I like stuff more like this." You scrolled a little further down, tapping on your personal favorite at the moment. It was upbeat, not too heavy, but very, very different from the Beach Boys.

Goemon didn't seem too fond of it, but you didn't take it personally. He kind of didn't like anything with an absence of taiko drums. Jigen was unreadable, and in her own way, Fujiko was as well. The two of them looked more like they were absorbing a lecture rather than listening to music.

Lupin, though, was having the time of his life. "Now this is new! Where are you from? Or, maybe, when are you from?" He laughed, indicating it was maybe a joke. Uh, maybe. "No, no, let me backtrack. What's your name?"

You gaped only briefly, realizing what you'd gotten yourself into. Soon, you were beaming, and introduced yourself proudly.

"All in favor of keeping the kid with the weird music, say I!"

"I?" The other three repeated in shock.

"It's unanimous!" he cried, not waiting for objections. "Welcome to the team. What else is on here?"
