--Author's Note: Don't worry, I'm not dead yet! The lengthier Goemon story is still in progress, but hopefully the first part will be up within the week. In the meantime, another Goemon one on the plate! Requested by @shimmering_raindrops, here's a fluffy piece about Goemon. Enjoy!--
"I'd really like to wield one myself," you admitted to him. It wasn't even the topic of conversation, but you had to bring it up at some point. Everyone else was so apathetic about it, you needed to bring it up as often as possible.
Goemon looked at the sword he was cleaning. His pride, his joy, heck, if he had a child, it would probably be second favorite to the stick of metal he held currently. He set down the cleaning supplies, strangely delicate for the task of cleaning a deadly weapon.
"Are you trying to ask for something?"
"Me? Nooo. I was just looking!" And endlessly curious! What was it like to hold? Was the metal cold, or did it feel hot like the meteor it was supposedly made of? How could Goemon balance it in one hand?
He eyed you skeptically, up and down. "I wouldn't object as long as it was under my watch."
Oh, were you staring at it?
Your mouth trembled nervously, giddy with childlike excitement. Something about getting to handle Zantetsuken reminded you of waiting in line to pet an elephant's trunk at a safari tour when you were younger. The buildup, the joy, all just for one tiny thing other people, LUCKY people, got to do daily.
You felt your arms start to move without you, reaching. "I wouldn't wanna break it or something."
"I will keep a close watch. For both of your sakes."
Oh, yeah. It was a sword that could cut planes in two, so you guessed the concern was well-founded. He sheathed it before holding it out in one hand, nodding at you like he was giving you the go-ahead. For a split second, you questioned why he'd sheathed it knowing you were just gonna fling it open, but realized that must have been the sword equivalent of handing someone scissors by the blade so they wouldn't cut their hands.
Even with expressed permission, you felt nervous about taking it. The sudden memory jog from seeing the light reflect off the blade reminded you of how dangerous it was. How powerful, and how foolish you could be at the same time... So naturally after that thought, you swiped it from his hands.
You took the sheath off quickly, like ripping into a present. Your first, and strongest impulse, was to do the Mulan poster thing, with the blade against your forehead, splitting your face into two perfect sections. Of course, as soon as Goemon watched you bring it towards yourself with the power of an axe, he had to step in.
"ALRIGHT! We should... Start slower." He took your hands with his and steadied the sword away from you. "Try to swing, and I will stop you if it gets too close."
Too close. Funny choice of words, wasn't it? The sword probably would've fallen out of your grasp if he wasn't there at that moment. Then again, there'd be nothing making you nervous otherwise, so this was a disaster either way.
So, you went ahead and swung the katana with all your might. So much might in fact, that Goemon's hands slipped off yours and the sword went flying across the yard. You weren't even sure that you could throw something weighted in such a way that far, but seeing it soar above you sure proved it. The two of you watched in horror as the sheath went over a bush and landed on something; something fragile by the sound of the harsh shatter that followed as soon as it was out of sight.
Goemon had completely passed terror and was now firmly planted in confusion. "How did you--"
"I don't even know," you muttered. "What did it hit?"
You started to make your way to the bush, closer to the house that everyone else was currently resting in. Goemon, valuing his life, gently took you by the shoulders and guided you away from the building.
"I... Will get it later. We can...?"
You thought for a second. "Have you been down to the river nearby?"
"How far away is it?"
"20 minute walk."
"Perfect. The river it is."
