"Mom, we're home!" Tessa calls out to Mrs. Evans as we walk into her place. It's a beautiful house which was made by her grandpa back in his days. So it has got a touch of vintage in some of the furniture and it had some of the paintings that her grandfather made himself. So, all in all, it's quite a bit fancy, but still, somehow, cozy and warm.
"In here, kids." I hear Mrs. Evans call out to us and we walk towards her voice into the kitchen. We see Mr. and Mrs. Evans both in the kitchen. I also take note of the delicious smell that hits my senses and I can't help but smile.
"Mrs. E, you're always making fancy stuff when we're home. Why go through so much trouble? We're no strangers, you know!"
"Oh, I know, it's no trouble, sweeties. Anyway, I like cooking for you people."
"Yeah, that way Tess and I also get to eat fancy food once in a while." Mr. Evans says mockingly. Tessa high-fives her father and we laugh when Mrs. Evans just hits him before continues her work.
"Shut it, will you, Roger?"
"I'm just kidding, honey. You know I love you. Anyways, I'll be in my study. I've got some work to do. You girls bond." He kisses Tess and Mrs. Evans and gets going upstairs into his study. They are so cute together, and so perfect too. They are each other's high-school sweethearts and it's so heart-warming to see how much they love each other even today.
"Sooooo..." Mrs. Evans starts saying, "Any new boys?"
This has been a running joke between all of us. Every time we're home she intentionally asks us these questions she knows are pointless. Just for fun.
"Mrs. E, you do remember that there aren't men capable enough to handle our tantrums existing in this world that we know of, don't you?"
"Any girls then?" she asks winking at us. We tear up into fits and fits of laughter at her comments. She always has the most perfect timing.
"Oh, don't mind her. She just desperately wants me to land a guy." Tessa says in between laughs.
"Well, honey, that's going to take some time. We all know that." I tell her, aware that she prefers to stay away from these things.
"Umm, excuse me, some? It's gonna take a loooooooong time." She intentionally stretches the word.
After a few more minutes of teasing and being teased, Mrs. E finishes whatever was left of her delicious cooking and we set up the table for dinner.
"Tess, go and call dad for dinner."
"Roger that!" she says and snickers, because her Dad's name is Roger and all. Yeah, that's her.
Making bad jokes and teasing me are two of her favourite hobbies.
"No. Literature and Music are two of my favourite hobbies. Don't flatter yourself, Alice." She says and frowns.
"Did I say that out loud?"
"Yes. As always. Keep your thoughts to yourself."
"Whatever. Do what you're told."
"Ohh, yeah. I almost forgot that loll." I roll my eyes while she laughs at herself and goes into her dad's study. Her mom immediately comes closer and says,
"Is she really okay? Nobody is harassing her at the school, right?" concern tainting her voice.
"No. Mrs. E, don't worry. We're always with her. If there is anything wrong, we're there with her."
"Okay. And none of the bad boys approach her, right?"
"Yes. But that isn't because they don't want to."
