I immediately put my hand on his wrist to feel his pulse and thank god, it's there. A little weak but it's still definitely there. I hear the sirens of the ambulance and I silently thank whoever the driver is. I see Tess crying at this point as she helps Sheldon, who is partially conscious and in the know of what is happening right now. Tess reassures that he is fine and tells him to get into the ambulance.
He walks into it with the help of Tess. I slowly open the door on Shane's side and I simply hold his hand as they take him into the ambulance as well. I am suddenly aware of mum and dad here so I reluctantly leave his hand and go to dad.
"Dad, Tess and I will go to the hospital with them. You guys take care of the car and then come along with Aunt Jenna and Uncle Harvey. Is that okay?"
"Yes, honey. That's fine. Go ahead and stop crying the two of you. They will be alright." With that, dad kisses me on the forehead and I get into the ambulance next to Tess.
Sheldon is sitting next to the doctor and Shane is on the stretcher. He is still unconscious and I ask the doctor about both of them as he finishes checking Sheldon and moves to Shane. After a few minutes, he replies:
"Both of them will be fine. Sheldon has a fracture on his right hand and a few other bruises. It's nothing serious or dangerous. Shane, I think has got a concussion from hitting his head on the steering wheel. He also has a few bruises but apart from that, he'll be alright in about a week. Both of them are very lucky to have survived such and accident with so little injuries. That was no small accident, right there."
"How did it happen?"
"We were driving at the usual speed, not too fast. But then we were joking and there was a second that Shane looked at me, away from the road. At that exact time, this cat came out of nowhere and he had to at the last minute to avoid crushing her and because he was scared, he lost control of the steer and we crashed into the tree."
"Thank god you guys are alright." Tess says, almost a whisper, and I agree with her. I don't think I can afford to lose Shane and Sheldon. They are just too important...
We reach the hospital and they take Shane into a room to check up on his head. They told me I would have to wait outside and so I do. Sheldon had to go to another room to get his hand wrapped up but he was nervous going on his own. Tess stood up and said, "I'll come with you. Ali, you stay with Shaney. We'll be back."
I nod in understanding and say, "Thanks, babe. Sheldon, take care." He just smiles and nods at me before both of them head off to the room. After a few minutes, mum and dad arrive along with Aunt Jenna and Uncle Harvey. I fill them in on the whereabouts of their boys and Aunt Jenna immediately rushes to Sheldon's room as Shane's check–up is still going on.
Shecomes back in a few minutes with a hint of relief on her face. She says thatthey'll be coming in 10 minutes and we sit in silence as we wait for Sheldon tocome back and for Shane's check-up to be completed.
