chapter 28

alejandros pov

"alejandro," ava shouts as i fall to the floor.

i glance up and saw logan fell. how does the town's news reporter know about vampires? then i saw the compass in his hand. i recognize that compass. it was the same compass that the Diamond's used back in the 1900's to locate vampires. it pointed at the direction any vampire was it.

"alejandro salvatore," logan says walking up to me. "according to this compass, you're a vampire huh? i knew there was something off about you and your brother."

he takes out a wooden stake and plunges it towards my heart but something stopped him.

mattia super speeds behind him and bites him in the neck then breaks it. he takes out the bullet that's still in my body and i watch my wound slowly heal.

he tosses the bullet and wipes the blood off his mouth. "if anyone's gonna kill you, it's gonna be me." he holds out his hand and i take it but he yanks it away. "not your hand asshat. give me my ring."

i roll my eyes and take it out of my pocket to place it in his palm.

mattia kisses his ring after he puts it on. "you're welcome by the way."

then, i heard biting noises.

"ava no," i shout as she drinks the extra blood from logan's neck, completing her transition.

"well shit," mattia whispers.

i glare at him. "this is all your fault."

"let's not point fingers at each other."

"whatever. the council knows about vampires," i inform him.

"i am the council."

"the fuck are you talking about?"

"i joined the council so now i know everything they do." he smiles. "now they won't suspect us."

i admit, it's a good strategy. "that compass look familiar to you?"

mattia nods. "it was the compass that told jonathan diamond who the vampires were.. including cassandra. hated him." he picks it up and puts it in his pocket.

"take ava back to our house. i need to tell skylar." i get up from the ground.

"okay," mattia says walking over to ava. "tell sky i said hi."

"fuck you."

i drive back to skylars house and see her sitting on her porch waiting for me.

"alejandro you're bleeding." she runs up to me. it was nice to know she cares.

"i'm fine," i tell her. "see? no wound."

"what happened?" she asks.

"logan fell shot me with wooden bullets."

"wooden? he knows about you guys," she caught on.

i nod. "well. knew about us. mattia killed him." skylar gulps. "who knows how many people in this town know about vampires. that's why it's important you keep it a secret."

skylar nods. "i understand. did you find ava?"

i drop my head down. "i couldn't stop her from doing it."

she bites her lip. "what.. what am i suppose to tell connor? he can't see her anymore it's too dangerous."

"we'll figure this out okay? after this ava situation.. you don't have to see me anymore," i say sadly.

"yeah.. okay," skylar agrees. "so where is she now?"

"mattia took her back to our house. i'll train her to live like me— not feeding on innocent people."

"yeah i'll come by to see her tomorrow, check up on her," skylar says.

"okay, i'll see you tomorrow."

"bye ale," she waves.

"bye sky."

skylars pov

this entire day was just crazy. if i was involved with alejandro, would everyday be like this? would i have to deal with this all the time? the secrets, the killing, it was all too much. i just don't know what to do about connor.

the next day

"so the halloween party is tonightttt," chloe says as we walk into school.

"what're our costumes again?" trinity asks.

"i don't even know if i can go," i tell them.

"skylar. no. that's not acceptable," chloe stops me. "you have to go."

"she's right," trinity agrees. "it's not the same without the three of us."

but i have to deal with ava. "yeah uhm i'll see."

"skylar," blake runs up to me. "did alejandro ever find ava last night?"

"no, blake i'm sorry," i lie.

ring ring

"who's calling?" i ask blake.

"i'm not sure," he answers the phone and puts it on speaker. "uh, hello?"

"blake? it's ava."

"ava where are you?" he asks in a panic.

"i'm fine blake don't worry about me okay? don't look for me either i'll be fine i swear. love you." then she ends the call.

"at least we know she's okay." i rub his shoulder.

blake scoffs. "i was worried about her and she's just off doing her own thing. typical ava. just like our mother."

he storms away angrily and goes into class. i felt bad lying to both connor and blake about ava, i hate keeping secrets from the people i care about.
