third person's pov

many emotions were rushing through skylar: anger, hurt, betrayal.

"that's not all i have to tell you," alejandro speaks up. "i was there the night your parents died-- the night your car drove off the bridge."

"what? what're you talking about?" skylar asks.

"when your car drove into the water, i dove down to try and save you guys," he explains. "your mom and dad knew about vampires and wouldn't let me help them unless i helped you first."

"everyone was always confused on how i made it out of there, but i guess i know my answer now." skylar looks at him. "thank you for saving my life."

alejandro nods. "i love you skylar."

"i love you too."

and so skylar decided to forgive alejandro because without him, she wouldn't be sitting here right now.

"let's get you home shall we?"

alejandro drove her home where she contemplated on walking in to face her family that wasn't even actually her family. she shook it off and opened the door, heading towards her stairs.

"uh," stella says, "not so fast skylar. look i don't ask for much, i don't set a lot of rules, but i do expect you to be honest with me about your whereabouts."

"you are not one to talk to me about honesty," skylar raises her voice.

stella throws her head back. "what's that suppose to mean?"

"let me ask you something," skylar whispers. "were you ever gonna tell me that i'm adopted?"

the topic stella has been so scared to ever bring up, surfaced. "s-skylar-"

"no don't." she runs upstairs and locks herself in her room.

mystic grill

after what mattia went through in georgia, he needed a drink. more than a drink actually. he took a seat at the bar and poured himself some bourbon without even asking the bartender. a few seats to the right sat alaric saltzman who needed a drink himself. he looks over to the left. and saw the person he's been waiting to kill for years.

flashback

"honey i'm home," alaric called for his wife. as he in walked into their bedroom, his eyes landed on his wife being devoured by a vampire. he couldn't believe his eyes, an actual vampire was killing the love of his life right in front of him. what was worse is that he couldn't even do anything because as soon as the vampire saw him, he disappeared. along with his wife's body.

alaric looks at mattia and meets face to face with man who took his wife's life.

meanwhile...

connor was searching through the library looking for a new topic to write about for his essay. his aunt stella and his history teacher had been spending more time together lately and it weirded him out a little, but at the same he wanted her to be happy.

"ow." a girl had bumped into him causing them to drop all their stuff. "i'm so sorry. i wasn't looking at where i was going."

connor bends down with her and they pick up their books and papers. "it's okay."

they bring their head up and look at each other.

"i'm anna." she holds her hand out and he shakes it.

"i'm connor," he smiles. "what're you reading that's so interesting?"

she shakes her head. "it's silly-- you're totally gonna think i'm crazy."

"try me," connor challenged.

anna hands him the stacks of papers that she was reading for him to inspect.

"animal attacks huh? you're into deaths or something?"

"yeah... only i don't think they were killed by animals," she confesses.

"what do you mean?" he asks.

"it's a lot to explain."

"i got time."

the two of them walk to a nearby table and seat themselves next to each other.

"there's been way too many animal attacks here in mystic falls," anna begins, "yet there hasn't been a sighting of an animal in years."

"so what do you think it is?"

"bodies drained of blood-- in the neck? vampires."

connor chuckles, thinking she's joking. "vampires?"

"vampires," she repeats. "i mean think about it. all the mysterious deaths..." anna pulls out more research papers and shows him more evidence to back up her point.

throughout the night, connor realized that he found his new topic for the essay he's gonna write.

"actually i have something that i think can help us," connor brings up. he pulls an old journal entry out of his bag. "a long long time ago one of my ancestors went crazy and wrote in here everyday-- sort of like a diary. he claimed that vampires haven taken over mystic falls."

anna looks through the journal. "you're a Diamond?"

"yup, i'm part of the founding family," he says.

"tell me more,"she smiles.

the next day

skylar's pov

"good morning skylar," stella smiles as i walk into the kitchen.

"morning aunt stella-- oh wait you're not my actual aunt so it's just stella," i fake smile back.

"i'd wish you just let me explain," she groans.

i frown. "maybe tonight when i get back from school."

"what's going on?" connor walks into the kitchen.

"nothing connor," i answer. "i'm gonna go to school now, bye."

i still love connor and stella deeply but i didn't think i'd be lied to like this my entire life. it just hurt knowing that my adoptive parents will never get a chance to tell me themselves.
