chapter 17

skylar's pov

mattia and i went outside to try and find alejandro and chloe and saw them in the middle of the dance floor.

"hey guys," i say walking up to them.

"thank you for letting me borrow your date," chloe says bowing to alejandro.

"it was a pleasure," alejandro replies playfully. "now ms. diamond, may i have this dance?"

"you may mr. salvatore." i take his hand and he swirls me around before we started slow dancing.

mattia and chloe walk away leaving just me and ale

"he apologized to me," i tell him.

"i wouldnt trust him ever," alejandro warns me, "mattia is not a good person okay? stay away from him."

i was confused but i nod hesitantly and we continue dancing.

mattia's pov

"where are we going?" chloe asks as i push her in front of me.

"upstairs," i answer.

"we're not allowed to be here," chloe scolds.

"i really dont care," i say happily.

we enter the mayor's main office and i start looking around for a box.

"chloe dear imma need you to stand guard at the door okay?"

"mattia we shouldn't be hereeeee."

i ignore her pick up the small box. inside the box was something i hid a long long time ago. the small department opens and i grab my item. a brown amber crystal.

"what- how'd you know that were there?" chloe asks. "what is that?"

"cuz i put it there," i answer, putting the box down where i found it. "now let's go."

"when'd you put it there?"

i grab her upper arm and lead us back downstairs. "a while ago. now stop asking questions."

"fine but i need to freshen up before we go," chloe says.

she makes her way to the ladies room and i wait out in the back of the mansion for her.

skylars pov

i was washing my hands and then i saw chloe walk in.

"hey chloe," i say turning off the faucet.

"oh hey skylar."

"uhm how's you and mattia?" i ask.

"we're good."

"i think you should stay away from him," i blurt out.

"why?" she says with attitude. "cause you can't handle for once someone doesn't wanna be with you and wants to be with me?"

"no," i say. "why would you think that? and alejandro told me that mattia isn't a good guy."

"well hes a good guy to me," chloe snaps.

as she was moving around i thought i saw something on her neck.

"chloe take off your scarf," i said.

"no. god skylar you're so annoying."

i yank her scarf down and saw bruises and bite marks. chloe quickly picks up the scarf hanging off her shoulder and ties around her neck again.

"oh my god. chloe what happened?" i ask, concerned.

"it's nothing," she shouts. "sky just leave me alone."

i take off her small cardigan to expose her back, revealing more bit marks and bruises.

"did mattia hurt you?" i yell.

"no skylar i said leave me alone." chloe shoves me away and storms out the bathroom door.

i ran of the bathroom but chloe was already long gone, i couldn't find her so i ran outside to find alejandro.

he was at the fountain alone watching the water.

"alejandro," i yell.

he quickly turns around and holds both my upper arms. "what? what happened are you okay?"

"i-it's chloe. you were right about mattia," i say in a worried voice.

"why? what'd he do now?"

"i took off chloes scarf and saw these b-bite makes and b-bruise." i tried my best to describe it.

alejandro sighs and looks up.

"w-why aren't you surprised?" i ask.

"look, forcing mattia to do something that he doesn't want to do is just gonna end up even worse," alejandro responds.

"and that's suppose to make it okay? so you've known about this? why didn't you go to the police?"

"trust me, it won't make it any better skylar but i swear i'm trying my best to fix this," alejando assures me.

"what is 'this' i don't understand," i shout.

we both pause and dont say anything for a little bit.

"i don't know anything about you.." i bring up. "you have all these secrets i can't explain and now this thing with mattia too?"

alejandro looks back up at me. "mattia and i are going through a rough patch."

"yeah well i don't want me or my friends to get in the middle of it.." i say.

"you're right," alejandro agrees. "i think we should just take a break until i have this figured out. it's not fair to drag you along."

i scoff and shake my head. "wow.. taking a break already huh? okay, fine." i walk away from him.
