Hi guys! I'm alive!

Summary: Virgil is failing math class, but he needs to pass in order to graduate, so his teacher recommends a rather beautiful tutor to help him.

Also, one word: J a n u s  *shook*

The tests were graded. Oh god, the teacher graded them. Every time grades were recorded, Virgil's percentage became lower and lower. His face became pale and his eyes filled with dread as his math teacher began to call out names.

"Patton, would you like to see your grade?" the teacher asked, smiling.

"Yes please!" Patton shot up from his desk and practically skipped over to the teacher's desk. Virgil had no idea how he could be so excited about this. Probably because he didn't completely fail every time.

Virgil was typically very good in school. He learned quickly with little trouble. In fact, he had one of the highest grades in his English class, very nearly beating Logan, the smartest student in school. Virgil's grade was so high that his English teacher genuinely believed that he could be a very successful poetry writer, and she told him that many times. Virgil doubted that very much, but he appreciated the compliment and carried it with him everywhere.

However, Virgil felt like a complete dumbass when it came to math. The formulas made no sense to him. They were just a jumble of symbols that made his eyes cross if he looked at them for too long. Word problems were not any better, chock full of extra words and numbers that made the problem even more confusing. Unfortunately for him, the test he had taken two days prior was ten word problems.

Patton returned to his seat next to Virgil and smiled at him triumphantly. Virgil raised an eyebrow at him.

"I got a B+!" he exclaimed with the biggest sunshiny grin the world had ever seen. Virgil sighed heavily.

"Congratulations," he muttered. "If I got more than 5% correct I'll be genuinely shocked."

"Oh come on, kiddo, I'm sure it won't be that bad!" Patton patted him on the head encouragingly. "Not everyone is doing well. That jock in the back, Roman, got a D-."

Virgil smirked at him.

"Of course you would know that."

"W-well..." Patton stuttered, red in the face. Patton had slowly developed a massive crush on Roman since the previous school year, and Virgil adored teasing him about it.

"H-he was just talking about it w-with his friends and I o-overheard—"

"Virgil, would you like to see your test?" the teacher called out, interrupting Patton's flustered rambling.

"No, not really," he replied, annoyed. It wasn't a lie either. Why bother when he already knew he bombed it?

"Well, your other option is me reading it out to you in front of the rest of the class, and I don't think you want that." She pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose slightly condescendingly.

Virgil sighed deeply and stood up, ready to meet his doom. By now, everyone in the class was staring at him, making his skin crawl. Once he reached the teacher's desk, he felt his anxiety spike.

"Virgil, do you mind staying after class today to discuss this?" she asked, holding up his test so he could see the grade at the top.

"Sure, I'll stay," Virgil mumbled in defeat. Math: 1, Virgil: 0. Quite literally, too. Virgil had gotten zero points on the test. Surely the teacher was going to speak to him about how stupid he was and that he should drop out of school, or maybe that's just how he felt in that moment. Either way, he was dreading the inevitable.
