"One large matcha latte and a powdered donut. Will that be all?" Logan did his best to put on his most personable smile.

"That's all, kiddo!" the customer sang. Logan was all too familiar with his order and his face. He came in twice a week after his history lecture, one which he shared with Logan's roommate Roman, who never did shut up about him.

"Name for the order?" Logan asked out of habit. The customer giggled.

"Oh Logan," he laughed. "It was Patton on Tuesday, and it's Patton today." His face practically glowed every time he spoke. Logan found it sickeningly sweet, though he could easily see Roman's obsession with him.

It had been Roman's extravagant dream to study theater and find his "one true love" to spend "happily ever after with." Ever since he and Logan moved in together, all he spoke of was his dreams of romance, his longing to be someone's prince charming, and his passion for...passion. Logan, however, couldn't understand what all of the fuss was about. Day after day, Roman would return to their shared dorm, raving on and on about how he wished he could attend his history class.

"He's the Juliet to my Romeo!" he'd say. Logan had simply replied that no greater force but himself was keeping them apart, rendering the reference inaccurate. Roman didn't seem to care.

Looking at the person before him now handing him a slightly sticky pile of dollar bills, Logan realized that Patton was conventionally attractive. He seemed kind, gentle, theatrical and good-humored: all things perfect for Roman. It was practically written in the stars.

Patton thanked Logan with a blinding grin as he returned his thirty-two cents worth of change. He didn't understand how something so minuscule could make someone so joyful. However, the powdered donut he received did look awfully tempting.

Logan finished out his shift feeling zoned out and almost defeated, though he couldn't understand why. Ever since Patton came into the coffee shop, he had become encased in a sadness that he could not describe. It was lonely, but not quite. It was jealousy, but not quite that either. Maybe longing? What was it about Patton that caused him such grief? He clocked out as quickly as possible, just wanting to get home and lie in bed. The shop closed at 10pm, which conveniently was Roman's bedtime, so he knew he would have a bit of alone time once he returned to the dorms. Happily so. It would give him the chance to think.

The night was cool and calming, and a light rain sprinkled down onto the concrete sidewalks. Pulling his jacket's hood over his head, Logan started for home. He hadn't thought to bring an umbrella, as the rain wasn't supposed to start for another hour. He should have known better than to fully trust the forecast and especially began to regret it as it picked up speed.

Logan made it a mere two blocks before he was stuck in a torrential downpour. He was soaked to the bone, despite hiding under as many awnings as possible. The wind began to pick up as well, blowing water in all directions. He did his best to protect his phone and glasses from getting wet but without much luck. Suddenly, a door opened next to him.

"Hey, are you okay?"

Logan whipped his head around to see a small boy with dark purple hair staring back at him through a crack in the door big enough for his head. He looked up at the building's awning and recognized it as that of the student library. He turned back to the boy in the doorway.

"I must admit, I've been better," he replied through chattering teeth. The wind was freezing against the water that had drenched his clothes. The boy frowned and opened the door wider.
