Chapter Ten
Home of the Alchemist
It was a few days later, and Waltz and Sumaey were sitting in a fabulous café together.
The journey to Sydney's home was a long one, Waltz's brother lived far away.
Waltz and Sumaey sat now at a tiny table, within a very large and wealthy town. It was a beautiful place, rich with life and all sorts of interesting people. Just on their way from the room they stayed at the hotel to this location, they saw several other guilds. Though none were nearly half as interesting as them. They saw many different figures, human and otherwise, but no one had a robot spider-scorpion, or a white stag (that was once human) or a telekinetic creepy looking cat. Even in this town, Loxus had drawn a lot of attention, Graham too, though not so much. Loxus stayed within their hotel room now, resting in a corner utterly still (as if not alive) and Graham, to his great reluctance, stayed in the stables with the horses. It was just Waltz and Sumaey, the cat had wandered off, most likely not far, and Spirit as was expected, had parted from them before they even reached the town. He disliked crowds, and mistrusted everyone except for Sumaey (he even hated Waltz slightly less now, but one could never be sure).
'Is that nice?' Sumaey asked Waltz as they sat together in their tiny table outside the restaurant.
'Oh yes its very nice' Waltz said continuing to eat. 'You should try some.'
'I've had enough.'
'The salmon filled you up?' Waltz grinned.
'Yup.'
'I tell you what though, the food here is delicious. I feel like a king!'
'Remember it for the future' Sumaey said to him. 'We could come back here again one day.'
'Yeah' Waltz mumbled as he stared down at his plate. 'That would be nice.'
He ate his dessert now, a spicy breed of cake, dark orange in colour, with delicious chocolate chunks.
'Oh this is so good' Waltz moaned in pleasure. 'This cake is so exotic and exciting. Spicy delicious goodness....mmmmmm.'
'I'm glad you like it.'
'They have all sorts of cakes here with all sorts of crazy flavours' Waltz went on. 'Melon cake. Spicy almond. Soy sauce and ketchup...mmmm... not as bad as you might think.'
'You're starting to sound like a commercial' Sumaey said to him, leaning back in her chair.
'I just find this place incredibly fascinating' Waltz sighed, finishing the last piece of cake and feeling the spice burning his mouth. 'Ugh so good. This café is partnered with that cake shop we saw isn't it?'
'Yeah?' Sumaey raised an eyebrow.
'What did that sign say was their special cake of the day?'
Sumaey fell silent in thought before answering.
'Door mouse.'
'Ah yes' Waltz gleamed. 'Door mouse cake. I will have to try that next time.'
'You can't sorry' Sumaey said to him. 'We're leaving today remember? There is still a long way to travel to your brother's home.'
'Oh yeah' Waltz mumbled suddenly dejected. 'That's a shame. I don't know when we will come back through here.'
'What was your brother's name again?' Sumaey asked.
Waltz stared back at her, leaning forwards with his elbows on the table and the fork in his mouth, blinking at Sumaey.
'His name is Sydney' Waltz replied.
