Chapter Nineteen
Transformation
They travelled fast across the land, heading in a straight line directly towards the mountain where the great fiery creature nested.
They walked on foot (sometimes they ran if they were going downhill, sometimes they jogged) they travelled without rest, and were exhausted, fatigue and lack of sleep were getting to them, but they ate on the go. They did not rest.
'Ah' Waltz gasped at last as they reached the edge of the forest they had been traveling through, stepping out into the open now they could see the town before them, and sitting upon the horizon, was the mountain. 'Ahaha' Waltz began to laugh with exhaustion. 'We're here finally. Finally....'
'Travelling was the easy part' Sumaey huffed at him, wiping her brow. 'You can still transform into that snake, right?'
'Yes' Waltz breathed. 'But this will be the last time I can do it. The witch has given me access to this power for only a short time, and I do not have the energy to hold that form for too long. Oh god I'm so tired...'
'Don't think about that' Sumaey snapped at him angrily. 'Get your head in the game. None of us could have any idea how long and difficult this quest would be when we took it, but its nearly over. We have to see it through. By the end of today we will be rich. Think of the reward!'
Waltz straightened then, sighing.
'You're right, it's just a little way to go. This is going to be easy' he laughed, trying to convince himself that it was so.
'What is that?' Spirit voiced suddenly, pointing a short distance away.
Waltz whipped around in alarm, squinting at the two figures some distance away, clinging to the shadow of the trees.
'Is that...?' Sumaey narrowed her eyes leaning forwards, '.... Lyle? And Felix?'
'Oh no way!' Waltz cried out. 'What are they doing here?'
'Actually, I'm not surprised they're here' Spirit replied.
'Yeah me neither' Sumaey added flatly.
'Well let's go say hi' Waltz began making his way towards them. 'No doubt they are here for her.' He smiled then as he made his way forwards, walking along the border of the woods. 'Brother and lover' he sighed tiredly as he forced his legs to move onwards, his muscles burned painfully.
'Felix' Sumaey added keeping in step with him, 'it all begin with him.'
'Such an amazing creature' Waltz grinned, barely able to keep his eyes open.
'You share a fascination with your brother over chimeras?' Sumaey asked Waltz as they walked forwards, Lyle and Felix keeping a close eye on the guild approaching them.
'Yes, I do' Waltz blinked. 'I just see them far less often than my brother does, I don't get to study them up close like he does.'
'Too bad.'
The two groups stopped before one another.
'Long time no see lizard-boy' Waltz waved at Felix, who stared back with an expressionless face.
'I shouldn't be surprised' Lyle spoke evenly to Waltz.
'Don't give me that, I'm here to help' Waltz replied flatly. 'By the end of today, everything will be how it should be, and I can take the holiday I so badly need.'
Lyle and Felix stood side by side watching Waltz.
'What are you going to do?' Felix voiced.
'I'm not going to hurt her' Waltz replied. 'You will be with your love again' he told Felix, 'and you with your sister' he said to Lyle.
