Chapter Thirteen
A Hard Floor
It was a sometime later when Waltz and Sumaey stood side by side on the deck of a ship, sailing across the waters to take them to the other land, where they would finally attend as Waltz like to call it, 'the fancy peoples party'.
They had decided (Waltz had decided) to travel alone with Sumaey.
'If anyone were to see you guys with us' he had said to Spirit and the others, 'it would like.... totally blow our cover you guys!'
Spirit did not like this idea, he did not like the thought of being apart from Sumaey, but she agreed with Waltz.
'He's right' she had said. 'We're supposed to be masquerading as husband and wife.'
Behind Sumaey Waltz began to smirk.
'But if Waltz touches me I will break his teeth.'
Waltz froze then, swiftly turning around to hide his face as Sumaey glanced back at him, a dangerous look in her eyes.
'But yes, it would look suspicious if you guys were with us' Sumaey finished.
'I suppose you are right' Spirit grumbled reluctantly.
'I know you don't want to but we need to do this' Sumaey urged him.
Spirit raised his head slightly.
'It might help you overcome your fear of people' Sumaey offered.
'Yeah maybe' Spirit had grumbled.
And so, Spirit, Graham and Loxus stayed behind to catch the next ship, while Waltz and Sumaey travelled first. The nameless cat had decided to go with them, Waltz had tried to shoo it away, insisting that it had to stay with Spirit and the others, but it either did not understand or was not listening and didn't care. Probably the latter.
Waltz could see it now hiding behind some barrels on the deck of the ship. Keeping out of sight but watching both Waltz and Sumaey closely.
'Such a strange creature' Waltz murmured.
'What was that?' Sumaey voiced.
'That cat' Waltz said turning around and leaning back, folding his arms. 'It's so strange, I still wonder about it.'
'Yeah me too.'
'Think of all the amazing things it might know...if only it could tell us.'
'It may know nothing. Don't get your hopes up and let your imagination run wild. I know what you're like.'
'I know' Waltz said shoulders slumped. 'I just uh.... get carried away.'
'I know.'
Sumaey turned to him. She looked beautiful with the wind in her hair.
'How is the egg?'
'My precious baby?'
'Don't get weird' Sumaey frowned.
Waltz turned away. 'It's safe' he replied. He craned his head back, staring up at the clouds. 'I can't wait until it hatches.'
'Come on' Sumaey said straightening. 'We should get some rest, it's going to get dark soon.'
As they walked across the deck, the cat leapt out of its hiding place, trailing after them.
'Oh yeah I just remembered' Sumaey voiced then. 'There's only one bed. You're sleeping on the floor <3'
Waltz dipped his head, groaning loudly.
