The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled her nostrils as Kait closed her eyelids. Taking a moment to appreciate the atmosphere that surrounded her.
The small black and pink themed cafe had over the years grown to become a favorite of hers.
The homey exterior that it possessed, the friendly staff and the mouth watering food had Kait making numerous trips to the little cafe.
Her brown irises skimmed the all black menu that was placed between her fingers.
Her eyes glanced at the time displayed across her cell phone.
11:00 a.m.
She had three hours before her decent to her own job.
Her gaze shifted to the glass door, the absence of anyone entering caused her to turn her attention back to the task at hand.
"I hope you're not preparing to scold me."
The voice in front of her caused Kait to roll her eyes instinctively at the woman.
"I've been here over an hour now."
Kait got to her feet, the two embracing each other in a hug that poured out how much they missed the other's presence.
"I know I was waiting on my brother to give me a lift."
An exasperated sigh left Serayah's lips.
"Let's just say I should have travelled."
Kait allowed a chuckle to escape her lips as Serayah rose the menu to her eyes.
"What are you having?"
Kait questioned, her mind already set on her order.
"Um... the breakfast wrap looks good... have you had it before?"
Kait's head shook in response to her friend.
"No..."
"Hi, good morning. Can I take your order?"
The woman's voice held a hint of sweetness to it as her honey fingers wrapped around the notepad in her palm. A black pen gracing her right hand.
"I'll have the breakfast wrap with eggs, spinach and bacon... and a glass of orange juice."
The pen scribbled against the notepad as Kait's lips parted.
"And I'll have the chocolate chips pancakes with scrambled eggs at the side and a chamomile tea."
The woman reached for both menus as she made her exit, leaving the two to their previous discussion.
Kait's orbs landing on the woman in front of her who now possessed a new glow to her.
Her mind replaying the images of their High School days and how much the pair had grown since then.
"How's work?"
Kait's question was met with an eye roll.
"I wished I did more than sell and service people's phones. It's a bore but it provides me with food and clothes so I guess I can't complain."
"I could say the same."
Kait allowed her own frustrations to roll off her tongue.
Seryah's eyebrows arched.
"I thought you liked working at the hotel?"
"I did and I still do at times... these days I just feel like I've outgrown the environment and it's toxicity... so much has been going on it just has me wondering, do I really want to be there."
