Chapter 13: Today's the Day

July 4th

Today is THE day! I was so excited, I woke up excited and ready to start my day. Since I didn't have practice, I slept in until about 8am. When I woke up, I went straight to my bathroom to brushed my teeth. I washed my face, did my skincare and got dressed. I wore some distressed black shorts, a red sports bra and a red tank top. I sat at my vanity so I could apply my moisturizer and sunscreen. I sprayed my pineapple body mist on my bare arms and neck to complete my process. I applied some serum and moisture lotion to my hands and ran it through my curls. I then tied them into a messy loose ponytail on top of my head. I grabbed my small black purse slipped my sandals on. I stood in the mirror for a moment.

After staring at myself in the mirroring last time, as I walked downstairs to meet Cat in the kitchen, I see that her outfit the same as mine. We looked each other up and down laughing. Carlito looking at us and shook his head while he drank his coffee. Still in his pajamas, clearly not planning to do anything until later on today.

"Ready for our nail appointment?" Cat smiled as she finished making our protein shakes.

"Ready!" I walked downstairs and gave Carlito a quick hug and grabbed my shake from Cat.

"Before you go.." Carlito reached into his pocket taking out a $50 bill.

"Here" Carlito putting his hand in front of me.

"Thank you, but what's it for? I saved up money for my nails." I was being honest.

"Save your money for tonight. I'll cover your nails. Now go before you're late" Carlito smiled and put the money in my hand.

He gave me a hug and kissed my forehead head. Cat got her goodbye kisses from her man, then, followed me outside.

We hopped in Cat's black Jeep Cherokee, turned up our favorite summertime playlist and took off.

"Today is gonna be great! I'm so excited!" I told Cat as we pulled up to the salon.

"I'm excited for you girl! It's a big deal." Cat turned the car off.

We stepped out of the car and locked it up. We went inside and checked in at the front desk. We chose our colors and sat down for our pedicures.

"Can I ask you something?" I turned to Cat as we relaxed into our spa chairs.

"Go for it" She turned her head and put her phone down.

"How did your first date with Carlito go?" I was curious.

"Well, he took me bowling, he slipped on the floor twice and then he spilled his drink on me by mistake. We laughed it off. Then on the way to take me home, he had car trouble that I helped him with." She laughed.

"OMG and you agreed to second date after that?" I smiled as she continued.

"Well he was funny and so sweet. Plus, I knew him for a few years before that. I knew he was nervous and he apologized. He admitted that he just wanted to impress me. He relaxed the second time around" She smiled and handed a water bottle over to me.

We moved over to the manicure table and continued our talk.

"What was your first kiss like? Was it with Carlito?" I was nervous to even bring it up.

"Yes it was, and it was okay. I was nervous and so was he, but we made it work." Cat gave me a weird look.

"How old were you? Sorry if I'm asking a lot" I didn't want to get too personal.
