The caste system had four divisions.

Brahmin- a teacher, a mathematician, a doctor, a priest and a scientist and includes anyone who uses brain more than his other parts.

Kshatriya- a warrior, a politician who takes training for war and can appoint right people at the right positions. The welfare of the people and the protection of his kingdom are the main functions of a Kshatriya. People get to vote for a suitable Kshatriya and he would become the king. If he disappoints the people, he is overthrown. A Kshatriya includes anyone whose work depends on critical thinking like the CEO, HR or people like that on the higher posts.

Vaishya- a businessman, a salesman and includes everyone who knows how to manipulate people and get people to buy their products. A Kshatriya includes anyone whose work depends purely on psychology.

Shudra- a laborer, a farmer, a weaver, includes anyone who depends purely on his body for his monthly income.

12 balutedaars- a goldsmith, blacksmith, sculptor, potter, watchman and seven other professions, includes anyone who don't come under the four castes.

Trade used to happen through the barter system where grains were used as money. Everyone had to pay some amount of grains as tax to their kings and the balutedaars to ensure the smooth functioning of the society.

After Lord Vishnu had created this flawless four fold system, the kings and the Brahmins started loving power and locked this system in the hereditary sense. Now, the son of a king will only become a king and the son of a farmer will only become a father and that led to many struggles, which will be explained later...
