CHAPTER 6: MISS JACOBS AND MR POTTER

"Remeber the hand coordination as you think of the object you wish to aquire." The tiny figure of Professor Flitwick squeaked as he stood upon his desk, watching as students repeatedly tried to conquer the Summoning Charm but failed miserably. Only Hermione and a few others had been able to successfully summon another bottle of ink from across the class room.

Devon and Ariella growled in frustration unable to get the hang of the spell, while Natalie continued to perform the spell, her normal, calm patience growing thin. "Why won't my Sugar Quill appear?" Devon gritted her teeth. "Accio Sugar Quill!"

There was a small zap sound and a faint air of shimmer near Devon's books. There, instead of the Sugar Quill Devon had wanted, was a big, fat Liquorice Wand.

"Yuck!" She flung it towards Ariella who caught it in her hand. She broke it in half and gave some to Natalie who chucked it in her mouth, lowering her wand in defeat.

Ariella took her half and bit into the candy wand. She shut her eyes, savouring the liquorice-y taste.

"Ugh...I don't know how you guys stand to eat that." Devon wrinkled her nose distastefully. "It's vile."

Ariella shugged and finished the Liquorice Wand, happy to have a break after those fruitless attempts. At least Devon made something appear.

"...and I still can't believe Seamus made what he wanted to appear when I couldn't even make dust appear!" Ariella grumbled, miffed that she couldn't get the spell done when everyone else had. Devon just rolled her eyes, fed up with Ella's complaining.

Natalie, Devon and Ariella walked through the corridors tiredly, their arms aching from casting Accio on objects all around them.

"Don't worry, Ella. You'll get it right eventually." Natalie sighed, wishing that instead of doing her homework she could be out on the grounds. As her stepped down on the last step of the staircase before it swished away, Natalie looked out of one of the big windows and saw Harry sitting all by himself near the Black Lake.

"Hey guys?"

Ariella and Devon turned to look at Natalie who had stopped, gazing out the windows. "Mmm?" Devon hummed.

Natalie teetered on the steps before joining Dev and Ella. "Instead of going to the Library, can we finish our homework out near the Black Lake?" She hesitated before asking them, dropping her gaze to look at the floor in order to hide a faint tinge of red on her cheeks.

Ariella slowly looked out the window. She could see why Nattie had wanted to spend time outside; the air was warm and the grass looked comfortable to sit on with the sun shining down their backs. Until Ariella spotted the main reason Natalie had chosen to go out.

Harry Potter.

Ariella faced Devon and Natalie. "Sure, let's go."

"Are you okay, Harry?" Natalie breathed, her ribcage full of air and tense.

Harry sort of flinched from a voice interrupting his peaceful demeanor. He snapped his eyes open, focusing on the the short, dark brunette in front of him. Once his eyesight adjusted, he recognized her. "Oh hey, Nattie."

Natalie smiled, her insides all jittery. "So what are you doing out here all alone?" Natalie asked. "Where's Ron and Hermione?"

"Well, we kinda had a fight. Completely hopeless but...they don't want to talk to me right now." Harry sighed, pushing his glasses up. Harry looked up at Natalie and motioned her to sit down with him. Trying to take control of her blushing, she sat down.

Ariella and Devon were sitting under a towering beech tree right upon the shore of the Black Lake, pretending to study. They were giggling as they watched Natalie blushed furiously. Ariella let out a particularly loud "Aww..." when Harry asked her to sit down which caused Harry to look over at them.

Devon elbowed Ariella who immediately blushed and looked down at her Charms book, trying to stifle her laughter with Devon.

"Are those your friends?" Harry asked, his green eyes twinkling and the corners of his mouth curled up in amusement.

Nattie nodded. "Yeah..."

"That's Devon, right?"

"Mmhmm..."

Harry searched for something in his pockets. "Can you give..." He trailed off, searching frantically. He finally pulled soemthing out and held it up. "Can you give this to her? It's important she gets it."

He grabbed Natalie's hand and folded a white piece of paper in her palm. It was a note. Natalie swallowed. Did Harry think...Did he like Devon? Was this some sort of love note? A feeling that never had occured in her before arose towards her best friend. Jealousy.

Nattie looked to where Devon was laughing and smiling against the tree at Ariella who was skimming stones at the water. She forced a smile. "Of course."

Harry smiled in relief. "Thanks. He'd kill me if I forgot to give it to her." He mumbled, alleviated.

He?

"Who's he?" Natalie asked curiously. Harry glanced at her, a smirk forming.

"I think you know."

Immediately, Nattie understood. That horrid feeling of jealousy instantly died down. There was no reason for her to be jealous of Devon. "Oh."

Harry turned his body towards her. "Since my friends are pissed me, I want to know more about you." He said earnestly.

"Okay." She agreed.

"What...is your favourite color?"

"Yellow."

"What's your favourite jinx?"

Natalie made a face. "I don't like to use jinxes on people but I would say Levicorpus."

"Do you like Quidditch?"

"No way!" Natalie blurted. "I'm terrified of flying. I don't know how you can stand staying up in the air for so long."

Harry gaped at her. "You're terrified of flying?!"

Natalie nodded, once again red in the face for umpteenth time today. "Well, we're going to have to change that, won't we?" He said as he stood up, hoisting his bag on his shoulders. He held out a hand to pull Natalie up.

"What do you mean?" She asked breathlessly as she was pulled right up to him, aware of the closeness.

They started walking back to the castle, prepared for their next class together. "You're going to learn how to fly tomorrow." He grinned.
