A couple hours later, it's time for the after party. I'm nervous for my duet, I really hope Jenny's cousin can actually sing, I also really hope that I don't burst out crying while singing Superman; because all I can think of is Cameron.
I sit alone at our table and watch my dad dance with Sophie. I watch them laugh and it makes me smile. My dad's happy here, and I couldn't ask for anything more. They're perfect together. When the song ends they come over and my dad holds his hand out to me, "May I have this dance?"
I smile and laugh, "You may." I grab his hand and stand. We walk to the floor as another song begins to play and we dance.
"Don't worry too much about this duet, pea. You'll do great. Be proud, someone's asked you to sing at their wedding."
"No pressure then."
He smiles, "No pressure. Just enjoy the moment."
Me and my dad dance on and soon Sophie joins us, we keep dancing until all the music stops and someone steps up to a microphone on the small stage at the front of the room.
"Is everybody having a good time?" Everybody shouts yes from all across the room. "Sorry, to interrupt but two of the lovely guests here tonight are going to sing Superman by Joe Brooks for us. Please give them a massive round of applause and let's get them on the stage!"
My dad and Sophie both squeeze my hands and clap as I begin to walk towards the stage, I look around for the person I'll be singing with, but they must be already there as I can't see anybody else moving. I get to the side of the stage and look across to find my partner stood on the other side. I stop dead in my tracks.
Standing across from me, is Cameron Gledhill.
Suit on, guitar strapped across his back and a similar shocked expression to mine. I swallow, take a deep breath and compose myself. I continue walking up the steps to the stage and Cameron follows suit opposite me. We meet in the middle and I turn away quickly to face the crowd. I grip onto the microphone for support and take a second to compose myself. He's here. Jenny is his cousin. This is the wedding he was going to. The room goes silent and after a second Cameron starts to play his guitar and I take one last deep breath before I start to sing.
I close my eyes and ignore everything but the song. I remember every word, hit every note and don't falter when Cameron joins in for the chorus and some of the verses. Cameron can sing really well, and by the first chorus, I'm singing well too. Our voices sound amazing together and when the song ends, everyone in the room is on their feet clapping.
I look at my dad to find tears in his eyes and at Sophie who has a smirk on her face. I think back to the look she had when I told her Cameron's full name and smile. She knew. Jenny must have been a Gledhill before today, and she knew he'd be here. I turn to look at Cameron to find him already looking at me.
The guy from before comes onto the stage andwalks up to the microphone, "Everybody give it up for Mae &Cameron!!" Everyone claps one more time as we walk off the stage. Cameronimmediately grabs my hand and pulls me outside.
