reece wasn't coping very well.
every time he got up and looked in the mirror he saw the bruises and scars.
they reminded him of what happened.
the pain.
his ribs could be seen through his skin.
he hadn't eaten much at all.
he wanted to get better, he really did.
but it just wasn't happening.
lexi wasn't allowed near him.
his parents told her to stay away after reece's instructions to do so.
he didn't want her to see him like.. that.
he wanted her to remember the happy, bubbly reece.
the old reece.
you see, reece wanted to be that version of himself again, but he felt unable to become it again.

brad visited his house the next saturday.
he was the only person reece's parents allowed into the house at the moment.
he took one look at the older boy and sighed.

"what happened reece?"
he asked, sitting down on the edge of his bed.
everyone in town now knew the full story, someone let slip and it got published in the papers.

but brad wasn't talking about that.
he was talking about reece in general.
his happy personality, his bright eyes.
reece rarely smiled anymore, and his once bright green eyes had now dulled.
he looked disheveled.. broken.
he rarely saw blake, apart from at school for three periods a week, and lunchtime.

they used to have almost every class together, but now it was just music twice a week.
neither of them went to pe, instead they sat in the library for the whole period and revised.
they were barely allowed to whisper in there, so they couldn't really have a conversation.

blake was doing slightly better.
he was beginning to become more open with people  once again.
george kept reminding him how proud he was of him.
this made blake happy, knowing that someone he loved was proud of him.
his mum was mad that blake didn't tell her what happened, but then looked after him.
she didn't show lots of affection for him, that's just how his family is.

though blake was doing better physically, every time he closed his eyes he saw reece being hurt.
this killed him.
he hated the thought that someone had laid hands on his reece.
blake cried himself to sleep most nights, not that he'd ever tell anyone.
he always turned up to school with dark circles under his eyes, but as this was now a regular occurrence, no one ever noticed.
george was with him most of the time.
he made sure that blake ate and took his meds.
every night george would facetime blake to check up on him, and make sure to go over everything.

blake used to do this to reece, but now reece didn't pick up the phone to anyone.
only brad was allowed round reece's house.
blake was trying his best to talk to reece, but the boy never picked up, and only replied with dry, dull responses to texts.
neither of them were giving up on the other, but they were both finding it difficult.
everything had hurt them both badly.

blake missed holding his baby in his arms.
reece missed the warm feeling of blake next to him.
both of them were missing each other, but they were also both too hurt to talk to the other outside of school work.
it was a bit of a mess.
but they'll sort it.. right?
