Satisfied that everyone was safe, I let myself fall to the ground. I could hear faint voices talking in panicky tones, and knew my friends were safe. But what about Chris? Did he survive, even though I blew up the Darker Lord?

I tried to open my eyes to see, but could only see blurry objects and fire. Lots of fire. My ears still rang from the explosion, and my lungs burned with every ragged breath. A large white blur arrived at my side, saying things I couldn't hear. Suddenly, I could. I opened my eyes fully, I could hear, and my lungs didn't hurt any more!

The person who had healed me was Chris.

"Chris! You made it!" I sobbed, "Are you okay?"

"Am I okay?" he chuckled, "You're the one who almost died. But I'm fine."

He kissed my forehead, his lips warm to the touch. I smiled, and he helped me stand.

"(Y/N), I-" he began, but something was wrong. Chris fell to the ground, convulsing wildly as I watched in terror.

"Chris, what's wrong?" I panicked, "Are you okay? Is there anything I can do? Is-"

With my shaking hands, I felt his pulse. He was alive, but barely.

Just then, the light blue spirit appeared over him, its one eye fixed on me with a hungry look. I had the feeling that this time it would get me...

I yelped in shock, and stumbled backward. But I tripped over a rock and fell on my butt.

"NO!"

Chris stood over me, summoning a wall of teal energy with his staff.

"Not this time..." he growled.

Then he zapped the blue spirit, yelling, "Take that!"

The spirit was immediately trapped in a teal bubble with glowing magical chains around it. It made a weird sound, maybe of distress or anger?

"(Y/N), gosh," Chris fumbled, "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, thank you, Chris!" I gasped, "You saved me– again!"

He grinned, and held out a hand for me to take. I gladly grabbed his outstretched hand, and with his help I stood up again. Finally, we embraced each other. I ignored everyone else around me, focusing my attention on his breathing. He was finally safe and away from harm. But there was something burning in my mind ever since he trapped the spirit.

"Chris..." I whispered, "The Darker Lord said you-"

His smile faded into a sort of grimace, and we broke apart.

"Come with me."

He took my hand and brought me to a large rock, away from the others. The bubble containing the spirit dragged behind him like a large teal balloon.

I sat down next to him, leaning my head against his shoulder.

"(Y/N), you deserve the truth. Let me tell you the story behind all this."

"This blue spirit was... is... my brother."

"What?"

"Back when I was young, he used to be a normal boy. And I'm not proud of it, but I was ashamed of him because of his looks. I ignored him. Everyone did. We had a falling-out one day, and I called him some pretty nasty things. The next day, I woke up and... his... his face was gone. He used magic to remove it. And without a face, how could he cling to existence? Before long, he had disappeared, leaving behind a soul full of hatred, malice, and envy," Chris explained sadly.
