For a long time, we all stood there on the stone platform until it was late afternoon. "We should look for a place to sleep and rest," Gandalf suggested. All of the dwarfs agreed. Gandalf and Thorin led the group down the rock group until we found a path down. "We should stay here for the night and continue tomorrow," said Gandalf after we stopped at the bottom of the Carrock. Thorin and I were tired. I knew he was still battling with the aftermath of the battle he just fought against Azog. The next morning, we started until we had some ground between the Orcs and us. Thorin stopped behind the mountain we had just passed for Bilbo to spy on how far behind the orc pack was. While we waited, I got bored and started poking Kili. He got angry and started fighting back until Thorin ended our shenanigans. "Stop it, both of you." Thorin snapped at us. We stopped since something or someone was coming. "How close is the pack?" Thorin asked when Bilbo rejoined the group out of breath. he looked behind him, but nobody followed him. "Too close, a couple of leagues, no more. But that's not the worst of it." Bilbo told us, which kind of didn't make any sense. "Have the Orcs picked up our scent?" asked Dwalin. "Not yet, but they will do. We have another problem," said Bilbo, trying to catch his breath. "Are You OK, Bilbo?" I asked him, and he nodded. "Did they see you? They saw you." Gandalf asked. "No, that's not it," Bilbo said and tried to keep talking, but Gandalf interrupted him again. "Good, what did I tell you? Quite as a mouse. Excellent burglar material." he said while the other dwarfs talked until Bilbo interrupted. "Will you listen! I'm trying to tell you there is something else out there." Bilbo said, pointing to where he came from. "What form did it take? Like a bear?" Gandalf asked. "Ye...Yes, but bigger. Much bigger." he replied. We all looked at Gandalf, who seemed to know the beast. "You knew about this beast?" Bofur asked the wizard, who turned away, not answering the question. "I say we double back," Bofur suggested, but Thorin shook his head. "A pack of Orcs'll run us down." he replied. "He is right. Better killed by a bear than a pack of Orcs," I said. "Thank you, sweetheart," Thorin whispered in my ear, which made me smile. "There is a house not far from here where we might take refuge," Gandalf said, which sounded suspicious. "Whose house? Are they friends or foes?" Thorin asked while he spoke. Thorin searched for my hand, gently squeezing it. "Neither. He will help or kill us," he replied, which was super helpful. "What choice do we have?" Thorin asked. I knew what the answer was when something roared in the distance. "None," Gandalf said. The next moment we ran, we ran for our life until we heard the roaring again but closer. "This way! Quickly!" Gandalf called, leading us in the other direction, away from the roar. As we were running, Bombur passed us. "Into the house! Run!" Gandalf yelled as we reached the gate into the garden.Walking through the garden, I saw some horses roaming around eating grass. "Come on! Get inside!" Gandalf called. I looked seeing that the Dwarfs were at the door of the house. I trotted to the door just as Thorin moved the lever. We all rushed inside. Just as the bear lunged his head through the door, the dwarfs all pushed the door close. "What is that?" Ori asked who was the only one next to the door while we all walked away. "That is our host. His name is Beorn; he's a skin-changer. Sometimes, he is a huge black bear. Sometimes, he's a strong man. The bear is unpredictable; the man can be reasoned with. However, he is not overly fond of dwarfs. I looked around the house and saw more animals like cows and goats roaming around the house. "Alright now, get some sleep, all of you. You'll be safe here tonight." Gandalf said, who followed me. In a corner of the house, on a pile of hay, I sat down, and slowly, the others followed. Thorin and I soon cuddled together next to each other. The next morning, I woke up just before sunrise while Thorin and the other dwarfs were still asleep. I gave Thorin a little kiss on the cheek before I took my weapons and walked outside. Walking through the meadow was beautiful. A horse neighed, and as I turned around, I saw the horses running out onto the meadow. Six beautiful black and white ponys walked around playing with each other. I wanted to go hunting but thought about it, hoping for a better chance later, so I walked towards the horses. Just as I reached them, I whistled quietly, making them lift their heads. In the next second, the ponies surrounded me. While they all sniffed me from head to toe, I patted them. "They like you." a voice said, almost scaring me to death. It was a man. I guessed that this was Beorn. "All the horses like me even when they don't know me," I replied. "You one of the dwarfs camping in my house," Beorn said. "I'm only half dwarfish, half elvish." I told him. "Well, I was surprised to see a group of strangers in my house." he said. "Yeah, I know." I mumbled. "Are you hungry?" he asked, and I nodded. "Come on, let's go inside." Beorn said, and together, we walked into the house. My first glance was towards Thorin, but he was still fast asleep.
