It seemed to go in slow motion. The man stabbed Lucy before Tom was suddenly knocking him out for the second time. Tom lifted the man up, throwing him out the high window before finally calming down. His breathing was heavy as his glowing eyes faded back to normal. He looked over at Lucy and Maisy.
Their hands were now covered in blood. Lucy clutched onto Maisy's hand, her eyes watering as she looked down at her blood covered torso and then back up at the girl in front of her. Maisy's eyes watered with her. It felt like her tears had just stopped when they just started right back up again. Tom collapsed next to Marco, holding his boyfriends hand as his face went blank. "No, no, no no no no no no no no no no no no." Maisy muttered, lifting her other hand to Lucy's cheek. "NO. No I just got you back please don't leave me again." She sobbed. Lucy shook the look of shock of her face and smiled softly.
"It's gonna be okay Maze, w-we're going to be okay." Lucy insisted, she sounded positive but her eyes continued pouring out tears and her grip on Maisy's hand tightened. Maisy sobbed into Lucy's arm. "Hey, stop crying. I'm going to be fine okay?" Lucy smiled, shaking Maisy's hand. Maisy lifted her head and looked at her.
"I was in love with you, you know?" Maisy cried. "I was in love with you and I didn't tell you because... because I knew you'd never love me back and I couldn't deal with that." She admitted. Lucy laughed and nudged Maisy with her free hand.
"I knew." She smiled back. "But don't be like that, don't give me the 'I'll never see you again' speech." Lucy responded. Maisy looked shocked. After a moment of silence Lucy looked back down at her torso. Her entire shirt was soaked in her blood and she could feel herself getting weaker. It hurt so bad, like a blinding white pain. She didn't want to tell Maisy the truth, she knew that Maisy already knew but she refused to let her think she was going to die. She didn't want that for her. She squeezed her eyes shut to hide her tears and smiled back at Maisy. "I was in love with you too Maze- Am, I am in love with you." Lucy grinned. "Why do you think I was always hanging around you and my brother? I don't like his personality that much." She giggled. Maisy laughed slightly.
"Why didn't you ever say anything?" Maisy asked frowning.
"Why didn't you?" Lucy replied still smiling. "So I hate to do this to you but um, I can't really move right now so... Are you going to kiss me now or...?" Her voice trailed off as Maisy leaned down and kissed her. Lucy grinned back as Maisy pulled away. "Perfect. That was absolutely perfect." Her smile left as the pain faded from her stomach. Lucy feared that would mean exactly what she thought it meant, Maisy looked confused as her eyes traced Lucy's face.
"What's wrong? Lucy? Lucy what's wrong?" She asked as Lucy's face went pale, all the color of her face drained out as she tried to force a weak smile back on her face.
"I-I'm okay." Lucy insisted. "I'm o...kay..." Her voice trailed off as her eyes faded out. Her arm went limp in Maisy's hand and she shook Lucy's shoulders.
"Lucy? Lucy! Wake up! Please please wake up!" Maisy begged as footsteps came up the stairs and through the hall. Marco glanced up, looking at Maisy's friends run up to the door, lead by Duncan. Duncan got to the door and his smile faded, he ran over to Lucy and grabbed her hand, looking at Maisy who was now sobbing into Lucy's lifeless shoulder.
"We got every one out." Violet muttered, staring blankly at Lucy's body as she spoke. "We came up here so excited because.... because we saved everyone." She mumbled.
All of them stayed, staring at Lucy's body for a while, before finally someone spoke up. "What do we do now Maisy?" Ava asked. Maisy glanced away from Lucy's body and raised an eyebrow, her face stained by her tears.
"Why are you asking me?" She questioned. "I don't know what we're supposed to do..." She muttered.
"You're supposed to be our leader." Justice frowned. "Just tell us what we should do and we'll do it."
"Aren't you paying attention? Lucy just died. Maisy doesn't know what we do now, none of us know what to do now." Duncan snapped. "I think we need to get out of here. Off the island." He sighed, Maisy sniffled.
"That's always been the plan. W-we need to go to a different dimension where things are safer." Maisy frowned. "I don't know where that is but we need to go there... I-I'll bring Lucy with us."
"What?" Duncan questioned, taking a step back from his sisters body on the table.
"She doesn't deserve to rot here! I'll take her with us wherever we go and we'll give her a proper burial there." Maisy insisted. "I got the recordings off the tapes in the surveillance room so we can get this place shut down, so lets go." Maisy stood up, not dropping Lucy's hand. She picked Lucy up and propped her up on her back.
"You're being quiet." Marco whispered to Tom as they walked slowly behind the rest of their group. Tom's fingers tensed around Marco's.
"We're all being quiet." Tom responded, frowning. Marco shook his head and sighed.
"You know that's now what I meant. What's wrong?" Marco asked, squeezing Tom's hand tightly.
"It's nothing." Tom insisted. Marco frowned.
"No it's not. It's never nothing. You can talk to me Tom, you know that." Marco assured, still squeezing his boyfriends hand as they got closer to Maisy's dragon cycle.
"I...I was scared of losing you. We couldn't find you anywhere and I couldn't stop thinking about how I was going to lose you and it was all my fault. And I kept thinking about it and thinking about it and I realized...I realized that one day I really am going to lose you." Tom frowned.
"What? You aren't going to lose me. I wouldn't let that happen." Marco assured. Tom shook his head and sighed heavily.
"No, you're a human and I'm half demon. I'm going to live way longer than you. So one day I'm going to wake up and you aren't going to be there. Even if that wasn't true at some point you can't just keep pushing away death." Tom explained. Marco stopped walking and turned to his boyfriend, letting the rest of their friends get farther ahead of them.
"Then we'll find another way. We'll find a way to make me live forever with you. I'm not leaving you, I know that much for sure. We're going to be together Tom." Marco assured. "I love you."
Tom felt butterflies in his stomach, like it was the day they kissed for the first time again. He kissed Marco quickly and smiled softly. "I love you too."
