Chapter One Destiny Febuary 28 2026

9:12 Am.
Pittsburgh was busy as always but I took my back ally shortcut, as I headed back to the dorms. All of a sudden I felt a presence like I was being watch. I took my heels off and started to run hoping my years on the track team would help me. I kept running until I ran into someone.
"Sorr." I then realized that this alleyway is absolutely abandoned and I'm the only person I have ever seen in it.
"Wait don't." That's when the girl in front of me turned me around and cupped her hand over my mouth and some man came out from The direction I was coming from and blue some sort of blue powder into my face. Then I was out cold.

"I think she's awake." I Hurd mummers as I started to stir back to reality.
"No look her eyes are closed, but we know she's alive because she as a pulse."
"No no she's awake." A male voice but not that deep.
"Shut up all of you." The faint noise came out of my mouth.
" told you she was awake."
" congratulations." The girl said it was such sarcasm I could hear the Eye roll.
"Who are you people." I stumble on the words as I stared to remember what happened earlier today.
" WHAT IN HELL" I shot Bolt upright as I realized everyone in the room has been kidnapped.
"Hey hey clam down." I looked at at the boy in front all I could see were his ocean blue eyes through the black dot slowly dissipating for my vision. That's when I stared to breathe heavily.
"Hey hey clam down you're.."
"CALM DOWN DID YOU JUST TELL ME TO CALM DOWN WE ARE FRICKING KIDNAPPED, who are you people anyways." My voice steadied as I asked who was in the room with me. Some girl pulled me off the floor.
"My names Sam that boy you were talking to the was Thorne the girl next to me is Georgia and next to her is her sister Rebecca. Over there by the window is Sebastian near the door there is Zoey and the girl in the corner behind you." I turned my head to see a little Indian girl in the corner.
"HAPER!" I yell her name thankful for the normality.
"Des?" She said my name with so much doubt, like I was sort of hallucination.
I nodded at her question of me being here, I low and soft sigh escaping my lips.
"Des..tiny, wait are you Destiny charmen." The first guy with the blue eyes spoke up, Thorne I think.
"Yes, how did you know that." Fear making my voice crack once again.
" senior year I sat behind you and Harper over there in calculus."
"Oh!" I felt my face turn red knowing because he remembered me and I had no idea who he was.

I frozen in place as a heard a click come from the window. We all turned our heads to see what was happening and from the window came a piece of paper and eight plastic buttons.
"What in the world." Sebastian whispered the words from where he was standing. Zoey the slowly bent over and pick up the piece of paper, the after clearing her throat processed to read from it.
"Hello all,
Welcome to the house of eight. I'm sure you are all scared but it is set up much like an escape room. each button can only be used once and only on one of you. Then use the powers provided to break out.
Red - gives you the ability to turn completely invisible including your clothes
Blue - gives you the ability of flight
Yellow - gives you the ability to read anyone's thoughts
Green - gives you the ability to shape shift into any non-extinct animal
Orange- gives you the ability of super speed
Purple- gives you the ability to phase through anything
Grey - gives ability move things with your mind
Pink - gives you the ability to heal any non-fatal injury may it be yours or someone else's

The ancient one" Zoey finish the note every word sending a shiver down my spin.
"Well that's freaking creepy." Sam's voice shaking at the words.
" Okay so not only is he a psychopath for kidnapping eight people but he believes in magic." Haper spoke for the first time other than my name. I gulped and felt the spit gather in my mouth.
"Okay so, pick a button play the game maybe we can get out of here." Thorne walked over to the pile of plastic buttons picking up the yellow one.
"What does this do again?" Thrones head shifted to look at Zoey. She unfolded the paper in her hand.
"Uhhh Yellow mind reading." Zoey said it so flatly that it almost seemed normal.
"Cool." Thorne pressed the little yellow bit of rubber on the top of the plastic disk.
Then we watch in horror as the veins in his right arm turned a pale sickly yellow.
"Thorne!" His name left my mouth just as his knees hit the floor. His body stared to violently shake. I ran over to him my skirt ripping on the hook that was on a pole in the middle of the cinder block room.
"Thorne?" My voice cracked. Then he covered his ears and stared screaming.
"Why are you all yelling!" He then feel back so that he could stabilize himself against the wall behind him.
"Thorne we haven't said anything." Sam's voice was comforting compared to mine and his screams. Then I realized it had work he could hear our thoughts. I focused on a few simple words.
Hold your breath it's only panic. Hold your breath Thorne.
I really hoped he could hear me because the other option was kissing a complete stranger. I watch as he opens his mouth taking in air and then closed it. His hands feel from his ears and then he breaths again starting quickly and slowly steadying himself.
"How did you know to do that." He looked at me with this sense of hope coming from his sea like eyes, I look back and felt the butterflies start to form in my stomach.
"I read once that if you hold your breath during a panic attack you're more focused on getting air rather than the panic attack so you stop panicking. Thought maybe it could help."
"I think you saved my life."
" that's an exaggeration."
"Okay well then my turn." Georgia side and picked up the pink button, she closed her eyes and clicked the little pink rubber. Just like Thorne Georgia's veins turned A neon magenta like color and she almost stared to choke.
"GEORGIA." Rebecca screamed her sister's name. Then it stop Georgia stood there completely fine.
"I did it I healed myself." Her voice was soft as she looked down at her hands. Zoey looked at the remaining buttons in a pile next to her when I realized I was still sitting next to Thorne with my hand on his back I stood up uncomfortably and walks towards Zoey. She unfolded the note tracing her fingers over the different colors of buttons she stoped at the green one. She bent over and pick the green button off the ground her fingers skimmed the rubber on the top of the plastic then without hesitation she pushed in the button. Her veins went neon green as her body started to shift, like a glitch her skin went back to normal like nothing had happened.
"That was wired as all hell." She gasped out of shock.
"Who's next." Zoey all of a sudden sounded almost excited.
"I'll go." Sam gulped as she said it and pick the red button on off the ground.
"What does this one do?" She cocked her head to where is Zoey and we were standing. Zoey looked down at the paper in her hand.
"Red..red..RED is invisibility"
"Okay," a sigh escaped from Sam's mouth before she pressed the button. Her veins light up with a blood red color almost illuminating and then she was gone.
" SAMANTHA." Sebastian screamed from the other end of the room.
"I'm right her....AHHH, I can't see myself. Wait I can't see myself."
"Sam" Sebastian rushed over to the few buttons remanding about to push one when Sam popped back into existence.
"That was cool." I step back to Harper.
"Are they together or something?" I whispered the words hoping only Harper could hear me.
"Who Seb and Sam. No no there twins."
"Oh okay." Sebastian look down at four remaining buttons, his hand migrated to the blue one. Flight if I remember correctly. Then like everyone else his vines turned an icy blue color then he started to slowly come off the ground. Then he blink and can crashing down.
"Ow." Me and Sam giggled a little then Rebecca walked over to the remaining three buttons on the ground and clutch the purple one on her right hand then her veins changed too. The light lilac color running up her forearm. After that she stared to shake so quickly we couldn't see her. Then once more it stop in a blink of an eye and it was almost normal. I took a sharp breath in as Harper bent over and picked up the orange piece of plastic. She looked back at me with almost sorrow in her eyes then pressed the button. Her veins went a pumpkin like color as she stared at me something like a Lightning bolt appeared in the iris of her eyes. Then everyone look at me as I look at the last button a little grey pice of plastic that blended in with the cement floor. It felt like the air temperature dropped 30 degrees as I stood there looking at a little pice of plastic. Zoey was the frost to speak.
Clearing her throat she said, "Gray gives you the ability to move things with your mind." I shudder not wanting to change my life but everything else in that note has been through so far so maybe just maybe if I press the button we will all be free.
Slowly I stooped down to my knees. My hand having over the small piece of plastic then I slammed my hand against it.
As I watch my veins turn the muted white color my mind started to race. It felt like my blood was boiling over. Everything in the room felt like it was calling to me like it wanted me to move it. I want to scream, or hit something anything to get the noise out of my head. I help my breath counted one, two, three, four, five and so on but it wouldn't go away. I barely heard myself whisper what do you want, what do you want over and over again till I heard a misty voice coming from the pain,
"Destiny....Destiny go to the door and use you head to unlock it become one with the lock and then unlock it."
"How."
"Trust yourself."

And just like that the voice was gone. I opened my eyes and pushed pass everyone else in the room ignoring the screaming objects and then I put my hand on the steel door it was cold to the touch but it didn't matter. I focused on the clicking sound coming from the door, I assumed that only I could I followed the clicks one by one then I watched as the door swing open.

I turned my head as everyone stared at me, almost amazed.
"Well what are we doing standing here we can leave." That was the last thing Thorne said as he pushed pass me.
"Destiny I'm so happy I could kiss you right now." Sebastian's voice was finally happy.
" please don't." Sam stared to laugh as they also pushed past me. Everyone stared to walk by me muttering things. I felt Harper's hand on my left shoulder.
"That was amazing." Harper was quite and then she squeeze my hand and left as well leaving me alone in the doorway of a cinderblock room. I took I more look how do used plastic buttons scattered around the floor. I walked back over to the grey one picked it up. Then like everyone else I left the cinderblock room behind me.
