Chapter 8

Inside the Nursery, Blizzardkit was bouncing up and down excitedly as she was being made an apprentice soon. "I can't wait!" She squealed happily.

"Calm down there, Blizzardkit," Sagethorn chuckled as she flicked her tail to signal her kit to come over to her. She obeyed and plopped herself down by Sagethorn, who began licking her fur.

"Aw, Sagethorn! You don't have to lick my fur!" Blizzardkit protested.

"I guess you're right, your fur is very hard to clean, anyway." Sagethorn smiled at Blizzardkit. The fluffy-furred kit had gotten up and bounced around again. Dampkit was just watching her silently.

She noticed him and stopped, blushing a little "You okay there, Dampkit?" she asked.

Dampkit shook his head at the call of his name. "O-oh yeah! I'm fine! You must be thrilled, huh?"

"Yeah!" Blizzardkit gave an enormous smile, and Dampkit smiled back.

"I don't want to be an apprentice because you must get the elders' ticks off their fur all the time!" Eaglekit mewed.

"Well, they will only make you do it, Eaglekit." Thistlekit snickered.

"I'll get you for that!" Eaglekit jumped on his sister and wrestled with her.

"Hey get off me mouse-brain!" Thistlekit was trying to get him off her.

"Both of you calm down, please!" Lionsplash meowed sternly and sighed.

The two kits stopped and sat up next to each other. "Sorry, Lionsplash." They mewed in unison.

Blizzardkit and Dampkit giggled after they watched little quarrel happen.

A white tom had padded into the Nursery. Blizzardkit was the first to notice. "Gullpaw!" She said excitedly and bounded up to him.

Lionsplash noticed next, "Oh, Hi Gullpaw." She smiled.

Gullpaw smiled back, "Hi Blizzardkit and Lionsplash."

"What are you doing here?" Blizzardkit questioned.

"I just came to congratulate you before you become an apprentice. I am becoming a Warrior soon." He puffed his chest out a little.

Blizzardkit gasped, "Really!? I am super happy for you!" She nuzzled against him.

"Congratulations Gullpaw! I'm sure Hailpad is proud of you." Lionsplash purred.

Just then there was a voice that could be heard from outside of the Nursery.

"Cats of Driftclan, please gather around the Tide Pool for a clan meeting!" The voice yelled.

Every cat that had been in the Nursery came out and once Blizzardkit came out next to Sagethorn, she saw who was yelling: The Driftclan leader, Shellstar. Sandcoat and Rushstreak looked up from eating a seagull. Icejaw, Eelspeck, and Stormfish came out from the Warriors' den. Featherdrip, Hailpad, and Otterpelt appeared from out of the Medicine den. Those who were not at the Tide Pool had come to it.

"I have gathered you all here because there will be a new warrior and a new apprentice. Gullpaw, please come forward." Shellstar meowed.

Gullpaw stepped up to the Tide Pool.

"Gullpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect Driftclan, even if it means your life?" The clan leader asked.

"I do."

"Then, by the powers of Starclan, I give you your warrior name. Gullpaw, from this moment you will be known as Gullstalk. Starclan honors your enthusiasm, and we welcome you as a full warrior of Driftclan." He mewed.

"You may dip your nose in the Tide Pool," Shellstar added.

Gullstalk dipped his nose into the water and took it out.

"Gullstalk! Gullstalk! Gullstalk!" the clan cheered.

Gullstalk proudly padded back over to Hailpad, who smiled at him brightly.

"Now, Blizzardkit, please step forward."

Blizzardkit padded up to the Tide Pool. I've never seen the Tide Pool before, it looks so cool!

She looked at Shellstar, her eyes glittering.

"From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Blizzardpaw. Your mentor will be Sandcoat. I hope Sandcoat will pass down all he knows on to you." He signaled his tail to Sandcoat for him to come to the Tide Pool. Sandcoat went up next to Blizzardpaw.

"Sandcoat, Eelspeck has given you amazing training. You will mentor Blizzardpaw and I expect you to pass down all you know to Blizzardpaw."

Sandcoat dipped his head to Shellstar.

"You both may dip your noses in the Tide Pool," Shellstar meowed.

They did and then took their noses out.

"Blizzardpaw! Blizzardpaw! Blizzardpaw!" the clan cheered.

Sandcoat turned to Blizzardpaw and smiled, "It will be fun mentoring you!" He gave a slight smile and purred.

"I can't wait to start!" Blizzardpaw replied as she contained her excitement.

Blizzardpaw then trotted up to Icejaw and Sagethorn, who were sitting right next to each other. "Congratulations!" Sagethorn mewed and nuzzled her.

"You will be an excellent warrior, and I know it!" Icejaw nuzzled his kit.

"Thank you both! I will try my hardest to make you both proud!" Blizzardpaw replied, puffing out her chest a little.

"The clan meeting is now over!" Shellstar meowed out loud.
