Chapter 29

Nova felt very uneasy today, not as in sick, but as in she felt like something was deeply wrong. She couldn't put her paw on it at all. Was it Birdstar? The cat who prefers a plant over his clan? No. Was it Blacksting? The cat who's possibly abused his son and possibly traumatized him for the rest of his life?

Was it Shredflash?

No, it couldn't be... He's fine... Or at least I think he is? Nova thought as she padded outside of the medicine den and looked around the clan. Everything seemed fine, so there was nothing to worry about, right?

Right?

Everything that's happened in the past few moons has been an interesting time for Nova. Sometimes Nova wonders if she will ever get an apprentice under her because what happens when she's gone? What would Vertexclan do then?

Well, I better hope that one of Greenscar's daughters has kits soon... Nova thought, then padded over to the fresh-kill pile. She picked a nice one and ate it. As she was eating it, another she-cat padded up to her.

It was Scorchwatcher, the eldest of Greenscar's daughters. She had a look of worry in her eyes. "Is Cloudthorn in the medicine den? I haven't seen her in a while and I am anxious about her." She meowed.

"Well, unfortunately, she is not in the medicine den. Did she tell you anything about leaving camp?" Nova asked.

"Cloudthorn last told me she was going to the Ocean Side with Shredflash and it wouldn't take long, but it's been long enough already!" Scorchwatcher exclaimed as she was anxious about her younger sister.

"I'm sure she's fine. Shredflash wouldn't harm any cat!" Nova replied.

Would he?

Scorchwatcher turned around to the entrance of the camp to see Shredflash pad in. She ran over to him and stopped him in his tracks. "Shredflash, where's Cloudthorn at?"

"I thought she would be behind me, but she might still come back from the Ocean Side." He replied.

"Why wouldn't you stay with her, you gull-brain!" Scorchwatcher meowed angrily.

Shredflash only shrugged.

Scorchwatcher growled and then rushed out of the camp to find Cloudthorn. Nova only watched as Shredflash sighed and padded back to the Warriors' den with a slight smirk as he entered.

The time is soon Shredflash, he's sleeping right now... Shred said in the toms' head as he padded into the warriors' den. Shredflash stood at the entrance of it. He saw Smokedream and Stagwhisper chatting and Blacksting sleeping peacefully.

It wouldn't be peaceful for him for long.

Shredflash's smirk only widened as he thought about the blood he would spill from his father. He wanted Blacksting to feel the pain and suffering that he put him through as an apprentice and Dustshine.

You know you want him dead...

Shredflash unsheathed his claws as he got closer to Blacksting, drool was falling from his mouth as he growled lowly. As soon as he was close enough to his father:

Shredflash jumped and pounced onto Blacksting. He dug his claws into his back and raked them down, which caused Blacksting to get up and yowl in pain. Both Smokedream and Stagwhisper looked up in horror as they watched Shredflash attack Blacksting.

Blacksting attempted to shake Shredflash off, but it was of no use to him, and Shredflash only bit into his right shoulder, causing blood to spurt out and Blacksting to yowl in pain once again. Blacksting clawed at Shredflash, only hitting his muzzle, but it didn't phase him. Shredflash clawed at Blacksting's right eye, causing him to screech and fall back a little. This gave Shredflash the chance to pin his father down, so he tackled him once more and pinned him, his claws digging into his shoulders once more. Blacksting tried to shake him off again, but he was losing energy.

Smokedream and Stagwhisper both ran out of the warriors' den.

"This is for everything you put me through!" Shredflash snarled and clawed all over Blacksting's face, chest, and belly, causing more blood to spill onto the ground.

Do it.

"And this is for Dustshine, you worthless father!" Shredflash bit into the side of Blacksting's neck and pulled as hard as he could. Blacksting's eyes rolled back into his head as his maw filled and gurgled with blood.

Shredflash bit out a chunk of Blacksting's neck, killing him instantly.

Shredflash spat out the chunk by the side of his now-dead father and got off of him. Blood had stained his fur, claws, and teeth. He stared at the lifeless body of his father.

He did it.

Blacksting was finally dead.

Shredflash padded out of the warriors' den only to see the faces of Birdstar and Skybelly.

"Shredflash... What have you done?" Birdstar's voice shook.

"I killed Blacksting, that's good, right? He tortured my mother and me... So I made him pay!" His bloodstained smile widened.

"Killing your clan member... Isn't good at all, Shredflash!" Skybelly growled.

Shredflash's smile faded away, didn't they know Blacksting was bad?

They want you dead now, Shredflash, get them. Shred's voice echoed and Shredflash got angry.

Shredflash unsheathed his claws and in a heartbeat, they were in Birdstar's throat. He coughed up blood. A few clan members had seen Shredflash do it. Skybelly's eyes widened immensely.

Go! Before they get you!

Shredflash took his claws out of his leaders' throat, blood spilling everywhere around him, as Birdstar fell to the ground. He then ran as fast as he could out of Vertexclan.

He continued running and didn't look back.

Nova was only curious about why she saw Smokedream and Stagwhisper run out the warriors' den. Then she got even more curious about Birdstar and Skybelly running over there themselves.

She saw as Shredflash came out of there. Then he seemed like he got angry. Nova then stood up quickly. She could not believe what she just saw. The Vertexclan medicine cat watched as Shredflash run away and her leader fall onto the ground.

Did... Shredflash just kill Birdstar?!
