school gets out in a week and i couldnt have been more relieved. summer was my favorite time of year because i got to sit around, swim, and hang out with my friends all day. not to mention playing wiffle ball with my friends, too. i was too focused in my daze to notice my 7th period teacher, mr. carlson, saying my name.

"ms. barnhill?" he said.

"ada!" my friend leann shook me.

i snapped out of it. "oh, uh... yes sir?" i said.

"x+23÷y equals what?" he said.

"oh right uh..." i looked at my paper.

"73." i say with confidence.

"great." he said and turned his back to the class.

i saw tyler and greg snickering at me so grazed my chin, smiling sweetly, which meant "f u" in sign language. "ada youve been zoning out a lot..." leann said.

she had the most gorgeous, blue eyes you could ever see on a person. "yeah, im fine. i was just thinking about summer." i sigh.

she tossed a chunk of her white hair over her shoulder. well, it was so blonde it looked white. "i cant wait." she said with a sincere look.

i was going to say "me too," but before i could the bell rang. i put my algebra book into my tattered, grey backpack and walked to the door, leann trailing behind me. i was stopped in my tracks when we were walking down the hall because tyler stood in front of me with his elbow resting on the wall. "whats up?" i smile.

"i gotta go ada. bye." leann says, kind of quickly. shes never been too fond of the boys, in fact she was a bit afraid of them for some reason.

"ok... bye..." i reply.

"we're going to the taylors' house. you should come." tyler says.

i look at greg, then back at tyler. "why?" i ask.

"just to hang out. we're sleeping over but you dont have to." tyler removes his arm from my path.

i bit the side of my lip. "we might order a pizza." greg adds.

"i dont know if you should invite me to someone else's house." i say and walk past them.

they catch up and walk on each side of me. "no, mike said it would be fine if i invited you. besides, elliott wants you to come over too." tyler said.

"fine. i just gotta run it by my mom first, wanna come?" i ask, still walking but now looking up at him.

"why? you scared to go alone?" he smirks.

"i was just being friendly. dont come then." i say smiling.

"no, no. i'll still come. but i'll also beat you there." he says.

the three of us get on our bikes. "youre on." i say.

tyler and i race to my house. when we were halfway there, greg trailed off to mike's while tyler and i kept going. i was in the lead until we were one house away and tyler purposely rammed into my back wheel. that caused me to lose balance and make a sharp, right turn which made tyler slam into me. i fell off my bike and he fell off his. "damnit ty!" i exclaimed.

he let out a laugh and put out his hand to help me up. "sorry i got your dress dirty, princess." he smiled as he pulled me up.

i brushed off my jeans and shirt. leann always wore dresses and famcy coats. i couldnt care less and i always wore "play" clothes. "youre so dead, tyler!"

i chased him all the way to my front lawn when i tackled him. i quickly stood up because i didnt want it to be awkward. he stood up and i pushed him. he smiled and i ruffled his hair. "hey!" he said.

i smirked and ran to the door. "mom, im going to see elliott! can i maybe sleepover?" i yelled from the front door.

"ok! be safe and be home tomorrow before noon!" she yelled.

i turned to tyler. "be right back!" i say.

i ran upstairs and grabbed my emergency sleepover bag. it was my sleeping bag with a large, white t-shirt and jean shorts in it. it also had deoderant, tooth brush&paste, and a regular brush but that was at the very bottom. i ran down stairs. "love you!" i said as i closed the front door.

i didnt see tyler or his bike. "that jerk." i muttered.

i started to walk and then felt arms wrap around my shoulders and i saw hands fold together under my chin. "didnt think i left, did you?" tyler's voice came right next to my ear.

"lets go." i keep walking, trying not to let him see me blush.

he had his bike hidden around the corner and i hopped on mine. we rode pretty slow right next to each other to mike and elliott's. "you know, i wouldve won if you didnt run into me." i say.

he looks over at me and smirks. "i let you win." he said.

"why would you do that?" i say, looking at the sky.

"because if i won, you wouldnt have have wasted a second on beating me up." he said.

"oh thats not true." i say, looking at him.

"oh you know it is." he smirks as we pull up to the drive way.

i walked in, holding my bag, before tyler. "hello, ada. you staying over?" ms. taylor said.

"yes, ma'am. is that alright?" i reply as tyler slides pass me.

"of course! elliott is playing with gertie outside. mike, greg, and steve are in mike's room." she said.

"thank you." i said as she walked into the kitchen.

"set this in the- you know what? i dont trust you." i say, almost handing him my bag.

we walk into mike's room and they quickly hide something. i shrug it off and set my bag down. "im gonna go see elliott really fast..." i say, suspiciously eyeing mike.

i walk out to the backyard and see elliott showing gertie some of his reese's pieces.
