she left the room. "mike did you really ask her over just for that?" i asked.

"no, honestly, i just thought about chantelle!" he said.

i gave him a 'really?' look. "i swear, man! you should go get her, ty. she likes you." he mumbled the last part but i still heard.

"what do you mean?" i say.

"come on, man she definitely likes you. did you not see her blush earlier? or the way she looks at you? or the way she laughs when shes with you?" steve said.

"yeah right." i scoff. no way she likes me.

"ill go get her." i say, walking out of the room like ada just had.

i heard her on the phone. "thanks chantelle. bye!" she said.

[ada pov]
when i left the room, i decided to call chantelle and tell her what was up. "mike wants you to cme and he kinda just hurt my feelings so could you please not come?" i say.

"ok. see you monday at school." she replied.

"thanks chantelle. bye!" i reply.

i turn around to see tyler. "i suppose you knew." i say, crossing my arms.

"mike says he only just then thought of chantelle amd he really did want you over." he said, walking towards me.

my harsh expression faded and i sighed. i let my arms loose and the fell at my sides. "i should probably set my bed up." i say, rolling my eyes.

"could you get my bag i dont really want to talk to mike just yet?" i ask.

"sure. meet you outside." ty says.

i walked outside and stared at the sunset. it really was beautiful. it reminded me of my favorite book since 6th grade, the outsiders. i thought the book really spoke to me because like a greaser, i was rough and tough and i had friends who were like socs. like chantelle and leann. they wore preppy clothes and their parents cared if they were scratched up.

in the book, there was a poem about sunsets.

Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

by the time i had finished reciting it to myself, tyler was holding our sleeping bags. "thank you. im sorry." i say, taking my bag.

"for what?" he laughed.

"im always... i don't know. annoying? in the way of things..." i said.

"no youre not, ada. but you are a really slow runner." tyler said and i gave him a warm smile back.

i set my sleeping bag up in smye sort of beach chair they had outside. he did the same and put his chair right next to mine. we stared at the sunset for about a minute without talking until michael came out of the house with greg and steve.
