When I woke up, it was already morning, and I couldn't recognize the place. It was a forest, but I wasn't upside down anymore. I was still hanging, only not from rope.
I was in a cage.
I looked between the bamboo cell bars, and searched for at least any familiar faces, but found none. I sat down, and sighed.
"Calm down, Angel. You will find a way out of this," I whispered to myself.
"I warned you to watch your back."
I looked behind me, and looked between the bamboo. As soon as I saw Felix, I sighed, sitting back down.
"You know, it doesn't really count as a warning if you don't explain it to me," I said, trying not to pay attention.
Right now, I had to find a way out of here, and help the pirates- Wait a minute... did I just think of actually helping a pirate? What the hell is this island doing to me? Alright, I'm not helping any pirates, only the Captain, and that's it. The Captain is the only one who can help me if he knows about me... But how does he know about me?
"Doesn't matter. I told you to watch your back, and you didn't. Now you're gonna have to face the consequences," said Felix.
"Look, if you're trying to help me, which I doubt you are, you're doing a terrible job at it. I suggest you leave if talking crap is all you're going to do here," I snapped.
I looked around the cage, trying to find a way out of here. I didn't expect gaining legs would cause me to lose my fangs.
Yes, mermaids have fangs, but they're for good use... if using them to bite off flesh is a good use...
"What makes you think I would ever help a thing like you? You're a mermaid. Mermaids are killers!" Felix said, making me want to laugh out loud.
"What's so funny?" he asked, and I realized I couldn't stop myself from chuckling.
"You're complaining about me being a killer, yet you hang around with a killer every day," I turned to face Felix. "You know the kinds of things he's done, Felix."
Felix knew that I meant Peter Pan as his killer bestie.
Felix smirked. "You're right. I shouldn't be complaining."
Felix walked closer to my cage. "You on the other hand, feel free to make any complaints you'd like. You'll be here for a while."
I glared at his smirk. "Felix."
He smiled, humming back.
"You wanna know what a Mermaid's bite feels like?"
He frowned, and I continued. "Then, I suggest you take a step back."
"You're right," said Felix. "The fun can be found elsewhere."
With that, he walked off.
Thanks for the help, Blondie.
I shook my head, trying my best to pull on the bamboos, but they would not budge. I gave up on losing any more energy, and pressed my forehead against one of the bamboos.
What did I get myself into?
I'm such a brat. Couldn't I just be happy with what I already had? A family, friends. That was already enough. But no, I just had to have legs as well.
Screw you, Angel. You ruined it for yourself...
As I thought to myself, I could hear distant battle cries. I could hear swords clashing against swords. Men and boys yelling.
I heard a hit behind me. I looked back just in time to find another pebble hit the bamboo. I looks down, and saw a man.
"Hello, darling. Great to see you alive and well. I'm here to get you out," he said.
I cocked my head to the side like a dog would. The man studied the cage I was trapped in, as well as my surroundings.
"I won't be able to reach you even if I climb the trees. You'll have to try to get out yourself," said the man.
I looked around. I walked to each corner of the cage in search of any flaws that would help me escape when I felt a sudden shift of the cage. I looked up to find the rope that was holding me up in the first place. I looked back down.
"I have an idea," I told the man, making sure my voice was low enough to not be heard. I looked ahead at the trees around me, and began moving back and forth in the cage. My efforts caused the cage to follow my movements. I repeated myself, until the cage reached the trees. Once I was close enough to make contact, I kicked the cage against the tree. The cage moved back, and hit the tree behind me. It moved forward, and I did it again. At one point, the bamboo behind me had broken. I turned around on my kneeling positing, sat down kicked that side. The bamboos fell apart, while the cage was still swinging. I gasped, feeling my body fall down past the opening as the cage kept hitting other trees. I couldn't hold on as my body rolled out. I was headed towards the ground. I felt my landing in something softer.
"That was impressive," said the same man who had caught me.
"Nice catch," I spoke back. "W-who are you?"
Before the man could answer, which I doubt he was going to, a certain boy interrupted us.
"Look at that. You kept your promise, Killian. How does it feel to betray your own kind by helping the enemy?"
Killian let me down. We found Pan walking towards us.
"The only enemy I have at the moment is you, Pan," said Killian, the man who saved me from my fall.
"Oh, please. Don't you remember the times we've worked together? The times you've aided me?" Pan reminded.
I instantly pushed Killian away
"You work with Pan?" I asked.
"Worked, preferably," the Captain corrected. "It doesn't matter."
Killian took out his sword, saying "I promised your friend I would bring you back to her, and that's what I'm going to do."
"Well, look at you acting all heroic," Pan said, circling us. "Wouldn't that be a change?"
Right after Pan said that, we heard a man's scream out of agony. We all turned towards the sound, and Killian found his chance. He yelled a battle cry, and ran towards Pan, aiming his sword up. Before he could touch him, Pan turned around, and disappeared into thin air. Purple smoke replaced his spot.
"Where did he go?" I asked, looking around.
"Well, wherever he went, let's not stick around and find out," Killian said.
He lead me outside of the forest, and closer to where the pirates were fighting the Lost boys.
"Men! Retreat!" Killian commanded.
The pirates turned to Killian, and did as he told. As they ran away, a few of the Lost boys cheered, while some of the others went after the pirates. We ran as fast as we could towards the beach. When we reached the shore, I saw a sail boat waiting for us, and beyond the ocean was a pirate ship.
"In here!" Killian said, hopping on the sail boat.
I followed his moves, and looked back at the others. Some stayed fighting off the boys, while others pushed the sail boat towards the water. As I looked past the shoulders of the pirates, I could see a few of them losing their lives to the Lost boys. I almost couldn't believe it. Pirates risking their lives for a mermaid?
I wasn't going to complain.
As we sailed towards the pirate ship awaiting us, I looked back at the island, and saw a few Lost boys standing on the beach. They stared at me, but I couldn't tell what they were thinking, much less what they were planning. I sighed in relief.
I'm never setting foot on another island again.
