"Cancer..." Lexi mumbled while looking out of her bedroom window.

The view of the stunning ocean outside is so vivid but she couldn't seem to appreciate it.

Her parents decided to tell the truth before everything gets out of hand. Mr. Towers especially wouldn't want her only child to be hurt some more once she learns about her illness somewhere else.

"How long Mom? Dad?" tears started rolling down her pale face but she still kept her composure.

"Lexi, sweetie. Let's not talk about that. What's important is..."

She interrupted her mom right before she could even finish her sentence.  "Why not mom? If I'm gonna die, then I have to know when! I have to..." Lexi finally broke down as she felt pity engulf her. "I have to..."

The couple joined their daughter who was now slumped against the corner walls near the window. She was sobbing heavily, it felt like her consciousness would escape her once more.

"Sweetie, c'mon. You're not alone, OK? We'll get through it together." her dad comforts her in his most soothing voice. Lexi's wailing was eventually pacified but the sobbing continued.

"We'll get the best doctor for you sweetie. Anything there is available that will help cure you. Anything Lexi!" her mom seconded.

"You'll just have to be strong for us. We will be here."

"Dad, Mom...I'm scared!" Lexi's inner child surfaced as she rested in the nook of her parents' embrace. At this point, she felt as if this is the safest place she'll be in.

"We know sweetie. We are also scared but we will just have to stay tough, OK?" her mom tried to hide her emotions but her voice betrayed her as it trembled under her breath.

A soft knock was heard on Lexi's door. It was Riza, the Edwards' helper. She was asked to tell the Towers' to get down to the garden for lunch. It was a fine, quite gloomy day...totally perfect for such gathering!

"Uhm...OK Riza, we will be out in a bit." Mr. Towers responded to the call then got his attention back to her daughter. He assisted her in getting to bed. "If you want to stay, I'll just request for your lunch to be sent here."

"S-Sure dad. I just wanna be alone for now. But I'll be fine." She let out a weak smile to assure her dad that she will be OK.

Her mom walked up to give her some kisses on her forehead and a tight hug to seal it. "We love you sweetie."

"Love you mom and dad!"

As soon as the doors closed, Lexi shut her eyes as she curled up in fetal position. She wanted to disappear. She wanted to be somewhere else. She wanted to scream to the top of her lungs. But all she can do is to try and wrap her head around the fact that she is ill...and probably dying.

She was facing the wall where the door is actually located. She opened her eyes just in time for a mysterious paper to appear under the space between the door and the floor. It was a plain white bond paper folded like a letter.

She heard steps quickly moving away from the door. She stood up and went towards it but as soon as she opened the portal, no one was there.

She picked up the intriguing piece of paper and went back to her bed. She slowly opened it...

                    Hi Lexi!

I hope you still remember the most handsome neighbor

you had in Pleasant Plains. I missed you...over lunch

that is! Will I be seeing you tomorrow? I hope you feel better

by then.  And Oh! By the way, welcome to the island!

                                                                                          Your Handsome neighbor,

                                                                                          Cole

She read it over and over again and was quite curious as to how he looks now. Thereafter, she placed the letter on the side table next to her bed and took a deep breath.

She closed her eyes again.
