Logan's pov
I looked at Patton, completely terrified. I've never been this scared before. Most of what I do is already clearly calculated and very precise.Patton grabbed my hand and gave me a semi weak smile. He must've known his smile wasn't as bright as usual because he said, "You'll do great. It's not you I'm worried about, it's the army."
Kris whisper yelled, "He's telling the truth, but I don't believe in ya! Sorry bud."
Krissy has the ability to give anyone any powers they want, at this point, I just assume she's all knowing.
I smiled softly at Patton, one of the rare times I've smiled in front of anyone except Patton, "It's okay. All I need is him."
He giggled and pulled me into a hug. "Hey, Lo?" He whispered, his warm breath ghosting over my ear.
"Hm?" I asked, hoping we would just stay here, hugging forever.
"I love you. You know that, right?"
Everything seemed to slow. He..... loves me?
"Patton, I—"
"It's okay. You don't need to say it back. I just wanted to say that before god knows—"
"I think I love you too."
He hugged me even tighter, if that was possible.
"Hey! Love birds! Get over here, we're getting ready to die!" Anxiety yelled.
Once he turned back to Krissy and Prince, who had a nervous expression he added a bit quieter, "Just a joke. We'll be fine."
Krissy put a hand on Princes shoulder, then Patton's.
"I know it seems like I know everything. And I know everyone seems pretty confident with this plan. But, as much as I hate to say this, I can't predict the future. I'll be in the next room over with Tory until someone calls us back in. This...,"
She swallowed hard, hands folded in front of her as she struggled, searching for the right words. "...this is your chance to say goodbye to each other."
The room fell deathly silent, a certain tone to match. I looked down at the floor, studying it intensely.
It's funny, we had all been here for a while, yet no one cared about the small details of the building. If this floor was suddenly rotten wood, I guarantee someone would say something. But no, instead it's a lovely calming marble. No one noticed. Whether they didn't have time to notice or they simply didn't find it important is hard to say.
I suppose it could be used as a judge of character. You see, many people don't care about something until it's taken away from them. To quote Anne Frank, "Dead people receive more flowers than the living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude." And that.... that is something we are all guilty of, whether we like it or not. (In case anyone asks, yes I am okay. My papa passed away. I had a chance to see him before it happened and I didn't. I am not mad with myself, nor am I depressed. As of right now I'm just dwelling on the past, wishing I knew more when I was younger. But hey! We can't change what's already been done 😅 sorry for the tangent!)
Virgils pov
Krissy looked to Tory as we stood still. Statues.Tory acknowledged and they left, as she promised.
Logan, usually such a leader, spaced out. I guess it's my turn. I want everything honest before I die.
"Roman Sanders?" I whispered, barely audible. It was spoken by someone else. The words came from my mouth but they weren't... mine.
