"Well he barely cusses, is a lot more soft spoken, and is a huge gentleman." I answered.
"What made him be like that all of a sudden? Obviously something else happened. You can't just drop out and instantly become nice." My dad implied.
"You guys are the last people who should be talking crap on drop outs. You two dropped out." I snapped.
"We dropped out for a good reason. We wanted to take care of you." My dad hissed.
"Well maybe he dropped out to take care of his daughter cause her mom doesn't give a shirt about her!" I declared.
"What?" My mom finally got out.
"Yeah. When he was 16 his girlfriend got pregnant and she didn't care about the kid so after she was born her mom ran away and so Jake and his daughter moved to New York to get away from here, awy from all the drama. But 4 months ago decided that New York isn't a good place to raise a child alone and moved back here." I explained.
"Oh. I-... Uh..." My dad stuttered.
But he then just gave up on words and walked to their room. My mom followed. Fuck. What did I do? I ease dropped on their conversation.
"I know... But I just feel really bad for him. For him and his daughter. And I was assumed shit without thinking." My dad said.
"So you're okay with this? With her dating him?" My mom asked.
"Of course I am. Why are you against it? My mom left two hours after I was born for my dad go take care of me himself. If I was against him I'd be a two faced asshole. And I don't want to be anything like my mom."
I didn't want to hear anymore and take the chance of getting caught so I just went to my room and went to bed.
The next morning I woke up, got a shower, and started getting ready. I put on an Aerosmith shirt, shorts, and sneakers. I put my hair in a ponytail and put in makeup.
I got out a drawstring backpack and starting putting things we may need in it. My dad walked in.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"Packing a bag. Today I'm meeting Janie; Jakes daughter. And we're going to the zoo, it was my idea. And so I'm taking some things we may need. Money, tissues, hand sanitizer, etc." I answered.
He didn't say anything and walked out. I assumed he just didn't want to start a fight and be rude. He came back a few minutes later with his arms full of stuff. He set it on my bed.
"You'll need this." He said.
It was Goldfish, chips, grapes, apples, water, Kool-aid, and cookies. I looked at him confused. He just took the bag and started packing it for me.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked. "I thought you hated him?" I was so confused.
"No. I was just assuming shit. Any man who is willing to give up things to take care of a kid all alone is amazing. Especially so young." He assured. "And I'm not gonna stop you from being kind hearted."
"Thank you. But I'm still so confused. You're okay with me dating someone with a kid?"
"Look. If I was against it I'd be against my dad. Cause he's been a single father since I was born. So Jake if a really cool person for sticking with it. And obviously keeping it together." He responded. I hugged him.
"Thank you." I thanked.
I let go. I then got a text saying that he's here. I ran out the door and got in the front seat of the car.
