22 | Chapter twenty two
Distance....
After the cafeteria event Ellie started to keep her distance, from Stacie and pretty much everyone she used to talk to. Everyone apart from Brent.
He was her tool, she needed him to convince herself she was straight and felt nothing for Stacie. So she forced herself to hang with him. Everytime she ran into Stacie she'd come up with an excuse that involved Brent and Stacie would not her head in understanding letting her go. To her Ellie was just a teenage girl in love, it was normal for her to act that way she hadn't thought much of it.
What happened next proved otherwise though.
Stacie had woken up the next morning with a smile on her face. She knew what day it was. It was their anniversary, nine years ago on this day she had stepped up for Ellie in front of those bullies and they became friends.
She checked her phone, no message, no missed call. Ellie hadn't probably forgotten about their anniversary had she. Impossible considering she was always hyper on every of their anniversary, planning something out of the ordinary. Maybe she was planning something extraordinary as usual.
Stacie got out of bed, showered and put on one of her best dress and then headed on to Ellie's house. She'd been shocked when Ellie's mum had told her Ellie wasn't home. Asking about her whereabouts her mum had told her she didn't know much as Ellie didn't give her much information.
Again she thought Ellie was planning something extraordinary. She then dialed Ellie's number.
"Hey Stace" Ellie's voice filled Stacie's ears as she brought the phone to her ear and Stacie smiled, she was still her Ellie.
"You're not home?" Stacie asked
"No I'm not I'm hanging with Brent"
Stacie's mouth formed an "O"
"Okay then have fun"
She ended the call as tears began to prick from the corner of her eyes. She knew that was a lie, Ellie wasn't hanging with Brent. She had run into Brent in Ellie's house, he was probably still there right now. He wanted to know about Ellie's whereabouts because she wasn't picking his calls.
She wiped her tears with the back of her palm and forced herself to accept the bitter truth.
Ellie was avoiding her. And most importantly, she had forgotten their anniversary.
