Chapter 41

"Joshua, thank you. Thank you for this amazing day out. I havent had this great of a day in a long time." Zach said as Jack walked him up to his door.

"You're welcome. It was the least I could do. If you were to ever want to do this again, dont hesitate to ask. You have my number." Jack smiled, turning around and walking to his car.

"Wait! I want you to meet someone right quick!" Zach shouted as he spotted two figures in his living room.

Jack's eyes widened. He grimaced as Zach motioned for him to enter the room. Jack entered the house and followed behind Zach. They entered a big kitchen table, and to the right was all the cupboards and appliances. At the table, 3 people sat, concentrating on their phones.

"Hey, guys! I want you all to meet Joshua. He goes to the same college as me." Zach smiled and held Jack's hand.

Jack waved with his other hand and looked back at Zach, not wanting to make too much eye contact. Zach was too invested in the others reactions that he did notice how uncomfortable Jack was.

"Nice to meet you Ja- Joshua..." the blonde man said. He was tall and slim, he also had green eyes and bright, beach blonde hair. That has to be Caid... Jack thought, not breaking contact with Zach.

"That's Caid. And that is Emma-" Emma was a short, curvy woman with brunette hair, she had ember eyes and was overall beautiful. Jack remembered Emma so vividly. "-And that's Daniel!" Zach finished. Daniel had changed a little since Jack had seen him last. Daniel had cut his hair shorter, he bleached it, and he looked dead. He had dark circles around his eyes and was very slim. Jack wasnt sure if that was the Daniel he knew.

What happened to him? Jack questioned himself.

"Nice to meet you all," Jack tried to make his voice a bit darker, but not too noticeable that Zach noticed. "I need to get going. My roommate will be missing me."

"I can-" Zach started.

"I can walk you out."

Jack turned to see it was Daniel who said it. Jack looked to Zach in shock, who just shrugged. Zach pecked Jack on the cheekbone and mouthed "goodnight" while walking to the hallway and disappearing.

Jack followed Daniel to the door. It was quiet all the way to the door, until Daniel walked outside and shut the door behind himself.

"Joshua, can I talk to you?" Daniel asked, leaning against the shut door.

"I really need to get go-"

"Why didn't you come back?" Daniel asked, tears rolling down his pale cheeks.

Jack was caught off guard.

"Why did Zach and Co- Why did they come back, but not you? What happened?" Daniel whispered.

"Nothing happened! What do you mean they came back? Did they go missing? What are you even-"

"I know who you are, Jack!" Daniel yelled, not loud enough that others could hear, but loud enough to hurt Jack's ears. Jack stared at the crying boy. "What the hell happened to you? Why are you having to pretend you are someone else? Why did you come back! You could have stayed out of Corbyn and Zach's lives the first time and not came back! No one would have gotten hurt! This is all your fault!" Daniel was on his knees with his hands cupping his eyes.

Jack couldn't take the scene and walked back to his car, looking back one more time to see the boy staring back, still weeping. "I'm sorry..." Jack said, before driving back to the manor.
