Jack heard knocking at the door, making him wake up. When the door opened, he saw his old friend, Jonah Marais.
"Jack, why did you leave?" Jonah whispered from the doorway. Jack could feel tears rolling down his cheek.
"I had too. Kat didn't deserve it and neither did you, but it was what I had to do..." Jack chocked out between tears.
He knew he shouldn't have left Jonah and Katherine behind. They were really little when it happened. Katherine said she had found a cool abandoned house in the woods behind her house. She invited Jonah and Jack over to explore it with her. She had been in it once, but she got scared when she was alone.
When Jack and Jonah arrived, they all three went to the house together. It was a good ways away from her backyard, making the route seem darker and darker as they approached it. Jack felt skeptical about the entire thing, he just wanted to go home. Jonah would pick at him about it, how babyish he was. Jack knew it was true, but it didn't matter. It was scary and he wanted to leave, but he couldn't just leave them alone. They were six years old, anyways.
"Jack, you need to man up. Being a baby forever will get you hurt. Don't run away from you fears of the dark, you'll be fine." Jonah put his arm around Jack and led him through the woods.
Once they arrived, Katherine went inside first, since she had already been in before. Jonah, being the oldest at eight years old, stepped in front of them to keep them safe. Once they were in the house a bit in the back of the house, Katherine and Jack started to get really scared. Jonah was trying to find the exit, but couldn't. Once they found the exit, a tall, man figure stood in the door.
He smiled a creepish smile. He started to walk towards the three kids, making them all whimper in fear. Jack saw his chance to run to the door, thinking the other were running with him, but when he turned around, they were gone. He ran to the door, exiting into the dark woods. He didn't stop running, not until he reached the backyard. He ran into the house, panicking.
He finally found Katherine's mom. He was trying to make sentences, but her mom only got one sentence...
"KATHERINE AND JONAH GOT TAKEN!" He yelled, pointing to the house.
She pulled out her phone and called 911. Katherine's mom and dad told Jack to go home, immediately and tell his parents to tell Jonah's parents to get over their as soon as possible. Jack ran to his house, calling for his parents to wake up from their naps.
Once they heard the whole story, they called Jonah's parents. The police, the firefighters, the ambulance, every person in their neighborhood were searching for them. When Jonah and Katherine's parents say Jack's parents with Jack in their backyard, they ran over to them.
"Why is Jack the only one here? Katherine and Jonah should be here too! Why didn't you stay back with them and help them?" Jonah's mom yelled, shaking Jack back and forth, trying to get words out of him. Jack was crying, no only from missing his friends, but also the pain of guilt and his friend's parents.
He now knew what it felt like to truly lose everything he had. He knew what it was like, but not as their parents felt.
Jack's parents pulled him away from the others, but didnt care if it h udt him, they just wanted them to leave him out of it. No one would listen to how he felt and why he did leave.
But, no one has found them since then.
