"What the hell is happening?" Lucas asked, opening the back door.
"Jaemin and Iseul," Renjun replied, "they're being attacked."
It didn't take them long to reach the woods, they soon arrived at the location Jaemin had given them, and were now faced with Iseul and Jaemin fighting four men.
They didn't waste time and threw themselves in the fight, but everything suddenly came to a stop when a gunshot resonated through the woods, making a few ravens fly away in the night.
All heads turned in the direction of the sound, looking at the man who was holding his gun in the air.
"Dream, take Iseul back to the house, now!" Taeyong yelled at the young members.
He stood a few meters away from them, surrounded by most of NCT 127. Some of them had blood on their shirts, some had dirt on their faces, but they seemed perfectly able to fight.
Mark was about to protest, wanting to help his brothers, but Taeyong's glare made him swallow back his words. Without wasting a second more, the boy grabbed Iseul by the arm and they all ran back to the house.
"What the fuck was that?" Jeno had yelled as soon as they were back in the mansion.
"A freaking surprise party," Donghyuck said, his tone filled with sarcasm. "What do you think it was, Jeno?"
Iseul and Jaemin were standing apart from them, panting. They had been fighting the intruders for longer than the others, and it took them a second to catch their breaths.
"This is what y'all got for trusting her!" Haechan spat, pointing an accusing finger at the girl. "I told you she would only bring trouble, but as always, no one listened to me."
"Hyuck, calm down," Jaemin warned, his voice stern.
"Oh, shut it, Jaemin! We all know you're biased in this. I mean, you fucking let her out for god's sake!"
"I'm not an animal!" Iseul fought back, surprising everyone. "I just wanted to enjoy some fresh air, and I begged Jaemin to open the door for me, he has nothing to do with this," she lied. She didn't want Jaemin to get in trouble for helping her, he didn't deserve any of this.
"She's lying," Jaemin spoke. "I'm the one who offered her to come out for a few minutes, but how could I possibly know we were gonna get attacked?"
"Oh, come on!" Donghyuck raised his arms in the air. "It's obvious she was just trying to escape!"
"Why the hell would I want to escape when I'm the one who agreed to stay here? I just wanted to go out, I never intended to go any further than those woods!"
Their yells were interrupted by Taeyong's appearance through the door. They had never seen him be so menacing, and they quickly got out of his way as he started to walk in Iseul's direction.
"You," he spat, like he was disgusted to just look at her. "In my office, now."
"H-Hyung..." Jisung spoke up, not daring to look at his leader in the eye.
Taeyong raised an eyebrow at the youngest of the group.
"S-She's hurt..." he noted, pointing at the blood on the girl's blouse. Iseul looked down to realize that her shirt was indeed covered in blood, and well, dirt. She suddenly put a hand to the back of her head when a sharp pain made her wince. When she took her hand off, it was stained with a deep red color too.
"I'm okay," she tried to smile at Jisung, who looked at her with his brows furrowed in worry.
"Hyung, could you at least let Renjun treat her wounds before you talk to her?" Jeno also tried to defend her.
Taeyong sighed.
"Fine," he said with a dry tone. "Renjun, just do the bare minimum so she doesn't bleed out on our carpets, Jaemin, you seem to be in better shape, so you'll be first."
He turned around, walking to his office without waiting for the younger boy, and Jaemin shot Iseul a reassuring smile before following his leader in the house.
"Are you coming or what?" Renjun snarled. Iseul looked at him already walking away in a different direction, and she hurried to catch up with him.
He led her to a room she didn't know, and it looked like a basic infirmary at school. It had about ten beds with white sheets, curtains separating each one, as well as pretty much everything a doctor could need in times of war.
She was impressed by all the material they had, that was a lot, did they rob a hospital in order to get all of this? Surely they wouldn't do such a thing, right...? But once again, they were criminals...
"We didn't steal anything from anyone," Renjun spoke, his back facing her, as if he had read her mind.
"Then where did you get all of this?" she asked, gesturing to the numerous shelves filled with meds and such.
"Doyoung-hyung is officially a doctor at the hospital," he explained, showing her the first bed. "Sit."
She did as she was told, and Renjun grabbed a tool to sit on as he approached her. He handed her a wet cloth and a bowl of water. "Clean your face," he instructed.
Iseul passed the soft material on her face, and she sighed in pleasure. She didn't realize her face had been burning. By the time she finished, the cloth had turned red.
"That might sting a bit," he warned once she was done, his voice as cold as the metal bars around the bed.
He pressed a cotton on her face where the skin was damaged, but she didn't even wince. Renjun was proceeding methodically, with an extreme precision, and yet, Iseul couldn't feel any warmth coming from him.
"You know for a doctor, you're terrible with the human species," she tried to joke.
"I'm not a doctor," he simply responded, grabbing a needle.
"Oh, what are you then?"
"You don't seem very panicked by the idea that someone who's not a doctor is treating your wounds," he scoffed.
"Well you seem to know what you're doing," she shrugged. "And besides it's either you or no one so I don't exactly have much of a choice now, do I?"
Renjun let out an involuntarily chuckle, "No, I guess not."
"I'm actually still learning from Doyoung-hyung," he explained. "He's not my mentor, though, he's Hendery's."
"Your mentor?" she repeated, confused.
"Yes, every Dream and younger member of WayV has an older brother as a mentor in a specific area. In my case, I'm training to become a medic, like Doyoung-hyung, but I'm mostly a fighter, that's why I'm Winwin-hyung's student," he clarified.
"Oh, I see," Iseul replied. "And what about your card?" she asked.
"My card? I'm the Knight of Swords."
"Isn't Winwin the King? Of Swords, I mean."
"Well observed, yes," Renjun said. "Every mentor is a King, and their students are Knights."
"And what about Mark? Isn't he the Ace? Why is he not one of those?"
"Ah, that's because Mark-hyung's special", he replied. "He's good at literally everything and has been doing this for longer than we have. He doesn't need a mentor, and he sometimes teaches us a few things when ours are busy, but he doesn't fit in only one category. I guess you could say he's our secret weapon."
