"Sir, I found something."
A soon as Park Min-Seok had found out about Jaemin's identity, he had called Kang to tell him about the news.
"What is it?" Kang asked.
"I found another one, sir. Another member of the NCT Dream unit."
"Well, who is it?" Iseul's father urged.
"Na Jaemin, sir."
"Wonderful, good job, Park."
"Wait, that's not all..." the man trailed off, a smirk on his face. A silence on the other side of the line indicates that Kang is listening. "Based on my previous investigation, it appears the boy knows your daughter..."
Kang suddenly gripped his phone so tight his knuckles turned white.
"I've seen them together before, they both work at the same store and I believe they're also classmates. They seem rather close."
Park enjoyed telling him that. He didn't like the girl, she was supposed to take over Kang's empire, but she was not made for it. She was just a stupid silly girl, she could never be at the head of such a company, especially not in this type of business.
But he, on the other hand, he could. He had the shape for it, he had worked so hard to get where he wanted. He wanted Kang's company, and he'd get it. Now that he knew the girl was involved with the opposite side, it made the whole thing easier for him.
Park had found something he could use against her so he could get her out of the picture. That was perfect.
"My daughter, you say?" Kang repeated, confused.
"I'm afraid she's close to NCT Dream members, sir."
Whether Kang believed his daughter or not didn't really matter to Park, he was going to get rid of the man anyway, but once the State would discover about his death, they would name Iseul as his rightful heir. He couldn't let that happen. But if she was caught in a fight being on the opposite side, he could make her death pass as an accident.
"There must some kind of mistake, are you absolutely sure...?"
"Sir, I know this might be hard to hear, your own daughter being close to the enemy is definitely the worst sort of betrayal, but I'm absolutely positive they're friends. They're coworkers and share the same classes, it can't be just a coincidence. Have you seen her lately? I didn't see her on campus for a while, and when I asked her teachers, they said she was on a trip with her friends."
"She texted me the same thing," Kang admitted.
"Is there a possibility she might not be where she says she is...?"
Kang seemed to think about it.
"I found it weird, because she has never been the type to be so spontaneous, but I thought she just needed to get away for a while..." he marked a pause. "What if those monsters kidnapped my daughter?" he exclaimed.
Park had never thought about that possibility, but maybe Kang was right. In that case, he'd have to find another excuse to get rid of her too.
"I need to do something about it, I can't let her at their mercy."
"I might have an idea, but we're gonna have to wait for a bit...." Park trailed off, his eyes sparkling in anticipation.
At NCT's house, Iseul was enjoying her book, happy to finally have something to do. She spent almost the entire day in the room, and after some time, someone joined her.
"Sorry to disturb," a voice spoke, making her jump. She was so absorbed by her book she did't even hear the man walk in.
"Oh, hi Yuta," she smiled, putting her book away.
"Do you want to get some fresh air?"
Iseul raised her eyebrows, "Well, last time someone asked me that, he ended up having to polish the entire armory and we got attacked," she said, her voice filled with sarcasm.
Yuta chuckled, "I'm aware, yes. But this time, you have the boss' approval."
"Wait, Taeyong agrees?" Iseul asked, dumfounded.
"I know, I was surprised too," Yuta replied. "But I think he understood he can't exactly keep you in here like some animal. He just wants to make sure you won't make his life hell by doing stupid and reckless things all the time, that's why he's giving you more 'controlled' freedom, I guess."
Iseul had to admit that Taeyong was pretty smart. He knew he couldn't control her in his own terms, so he made sure to keep an eye on her while giving her some space.
"So, do you want to go out, or...?" Yuta asked, shooting her a questioning look.
"Sure!"
Yuta let her out first, but as she made her way out, Iseul brushed past him and froze. She had felt a metallic object touch her thigh, and Yuta chuckled awkwardly.
"Is this a gun...?"
He shrugged, "Better get used to it, we all have weapons," he replied.
"Is this really necessary?" she questioned, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, it is," another voice spoke. Taeyong had silently made his way to the bench Iseul was now sitting on. She scoffed.
"For a simple walk in your own backyard?" she retorted.
Taeyong crossed his arms on his chest, annoyed at her naïve behavior.
"Look, sweetheart," he spoke, his voice showing his anger, "hate to break it to you, but this is a gang, alright? The mafia world. A criminal organization that kills, steals, and do all kind of stuff a little girl like you couldn't even imagine in your worst nightmares.
We're not your local pickpockets, and the people out there," he gestured to the road and the woods, "they're out for blood." He spat, looking at her in the eye and she didn't flinch. "You should know that by now, didn't your little encounter with some rival gang members last night teach you anything? Stop underestimating the danger because it's everywhere. So if you want to go out once a day, you're gonna have a member accompany you each time, and he's going to be armed, because that's how things work in our world. So you better make up your mind fast because I ain't got no time to babysit a stupid girl like yourself who thinks she's out of reach from danger."As soon as he was done talking, Iseul got up, and before he had the time to react, she kicked him in the stomach, taking advantage of his pain to twist his arm and put him to the ground with such violence his head hit the grass.
"Well then I guess it's a good thing I don't need a babysitter, then," she spat back, walking away.
