"Y/n, this is Mister Hiro Yoto." My father stood beside a family with a boy not much older than myself, a first year college student at most.
"Hello." I said, holding out my hand. He looked at it for a moment, a confused stare on his face. Then his eyes lit up in realization.
"Hello Miss Y/n. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." He said softly, brushing his lips against my hand.
"Dinner will begin momentarily, please find your seats." My father said, turning on his heel, Hiro's parents following behind him.
Hiro smiled shyly, and I sighed. He quickly followed suite, taking my hand as we walked. I began to take my hand away when he whispered something barely audible. "I'm sorry."
"What?" I asked, a little louder than I meant to.
"What was that y/n?" My father piped up from in front of us.
"Nothing sir." I said, pulling my hand from Hiro's as I sat.
The maids brought in dinner, and quickly we began to eat. "So Hiro, I hear you are going to be taking over your fathers law firm once you graduate?" My father asked, his eyes trained on the boy.
He gulped, almost as if he were terrified to say the wrong thing. "Yes..sir." he said, glancing down at his food. "It is a grand opportunity that I just couldn't pass up."
"I agree, such a wonderous opportunity indeed! Y/n here can't wait to take over the company come this June, can you?" He asked, eyeing me down.
"Yes sir. I am beyond pleased." I said, giving him the best smile I could muster.
"Mr. Suoh, I hear that your son has been trapezing around as a playboy? Is this true?" Mr. Yoto asked, taking a bite of food.
"Yes, well." My father started. "My son has no connection to me or my family as soon as the marriage is finalized. He will simply be removed from the family name."
I choked on the air around me. Removed? I just couldn't picture my brother as a commoner, no matter how hard I tried.
"I see, good on you for nipping the issue at the bud. Miss Suoh, what is your standing with your estranged brother?"
I took a deep breath. "I have no wish to be seen as someone he knows. We simply have removed each other from our lives completely." My heart plummeted.
"Hiro, why don't you and y/n go for a walk in the garden? Your father and I have some things to discuss."
Yes sir." He said, fumbling over himself to stand up. "Miss Suoh-" He offered out a hand.
I took his hand, standing up from my own seat. I led him out back to the garden, a place I had loved to play in as a child.
"I'm sorry Miss Y/n." He said, whispering softly.
"What for?" I asked, staring at the purple irises as we walked.
"I don't want to marry you, and I have a feeling that it's mutual." He paused, turning to face me.
I nodded. "You would be correct. Please, call me y/n though. I do hate formalities."
"Alright y/n. You see, my father wants to marry me off as soon as possible. I've created quite a predicament for him."
I led him over to a bench by a bush of roses. "What do you mean Hiro?"
"I'm in love with someone else." He confessed, pushing his face into his hands. "If word got out, it could destroy my families reputation."
