I followed Jace while trying to keep up with their quick pace. Dragons were fast flyers and also great to have above you when it's raining. A shadow passed through the mist, obviously not seen by Kayden or Jace. My eyes followed the shape every time that it got near us, and I felt a shiver run up my spine along with a bad feeling in my gut.
When it came too close and I saw part of its tail, I instantly reacted by opening my mouth and shooting out green light at it. This got Kayden and Jace's attention and they turned around to find me looking around frantically. A cry echoed all around us and the stench of death filled the air, leaving me growling.
'Ambrissa!' Jace's voice filled my head and moved just in time to avoid being smashed by the spines on the tip of the creature's tail. 'Hurry! We need to get out of here!'
We flew faster than we did before and the shadowy creature circled around us as we went. At last, it showed itself by coming at us head on from behind. Its mouth was filled with razor sharp teeth, its skin was dark green, blue, and black, bright red orbs filled its eye sockets. When I looked back at it again, I came up with a plan.
'Don't stop, we need to lose this thing!' I yelled at them through the mind-link and slowed down to look back again.
After Kayden and Jace looked ahead of us, I made a sharp turn and flew straight at the shadowy dragon-like creature. It let out a loud screeching noise that made me flinch and almost lose balance. As I came closer to it, I got ready to fly into its mouth and attack it from the inside since I was small enough. Finally, I flapped my wings harder and reached its mouth where I filled my mouth with green light and my body shook with power.
Its jaws snapped shut behind me and then I released my green magic, causing a massive explosion and hearing the sounds of Kayden and Jace roaring. A cloud of green dust mixed with the rain and I started to feel weak again after emerging from the green mist and back into the clear rain. My wings gave out and I started falling, causing Kayden and Jace to dive and try to catch me. I shifted into my human form once again and landed safely on Jace's back, where I climbed to the base of his neck and held on for dear life.
Coldness wrapped around my limbs and I began shivering, making it harder to hold onto Jace's neck. "H-how much l-longer?" My teeth chattered as I spoke.
'We're almost there, just hang in there, Ambrissa.' Jace's voice was filled with worry as a dark horizon that looked like it was made of trees appeared. 'It's behind this forest, now just hold on for a few more minutes.'
The rain died down to a drizzle once we reached Glascera and we could see through the misty air once again. Jace landed gently on the ground and shifted, causing my arms to be wrapped tighter around his shoulders and neck while my legs were resting against his hips. Kayden landed in a larger open area before shifting and walking over to us.
"Ambrissa, are you alright?" Kayden rested a hand on my head, the warmth of his hand left and was replaced by the freezing cold again.
'I'm freezing and I can barely keep my head up.' I mind-linked them both since I was so cold that I couldn't even open my mouth to speak.
Jace found a set of doors and ran through them, ignoring the looks that people gave us as we passed them. "Where's Juliana? I need to find her now! Somebody please help me?" People walked by us and ignored Jace's pleading.
"We have a princess that is in danger! Now get us help now or we will make sure that you all suffer the same way!" Kayden spoke out above all of the sounds throughout the courtyard and the hallways of the castle.
Two girls my age looked at each other before one of them pointed down a hallway. "Take the stairs at the end and then find the door with a white curtain over it." We followed the directions and Kayden pushed the door open.
