The cold pitter-patter of rain hit Kooky's skin, causing her spine to shiver up to her neck. She got used to it, but she always hated cold water on her skin. Or just water in general. Wait, was she a cat? That'd be epic.
The rain was supposed to fill up a water hole so that she and Lemon could do... something. She was never actually told any of the details. She was just happy that Lemon was excited to do something with her. She noticed lately that with whatever games they played, Lemon never actually enjoyed it. She pretended she did, but Kooky knew.
Right now the two of them were in dense foliage, taking cover as the hole filled up. Behind them was a forest being drenched by the pouring rain. "So what are we doing?" Kooky asked, having to raise her voice so she would be heard over the rain. Lemon said mischievously, "You'll see."
Well that's vague. Kooky couldn't stand surprises. She couldn't understand surprises. It never made sense why things couldn't be straightforward, why everything had to be a secret. She wouldn't keep secrets from Lemon. Would she?
The water finally filled, and the rain stopped pouring. Before she could sigh relief, Lemon yanked her arm and took her to the water hole. It was located in a grassy clearing, illuminated by the sun peeking through the clouds. It was a hole a couple of feet wide, and when she tried to find the bottom, she saw only darkness. Lemon let go of her arm and bunched her legs. She jumped in, creating a mighty splash, spraying Kooky and nearby shrubs. She came back up for air, gasping, and paddled towards the edge of the makeshift pool. Her clothes were soaking and her hair covered her face, making her have to wipe it out of her eyes. Kooky snorted.
"So when are you going to join?" Lemon's question stopped Kooky dead in her tracks. "No," she never learned to swim or even remembers being in a body of water. She shook her head in defiance and stumbled backward trying to get away. "No, no, nonononono," before she could turn away, Lemon grabbed her by the ankle, making her fall back into the pool.
A cold shock hit her throughout her body, making her stiff. Lemon came to hold her, but it didn't make up for the utter discomfort Kooky felt. She tried not to flail, risking Lemon letting go. "You okay?" Lemon chuckled. Lemon had caught her by the back, so she was relieved she couldn't see Lemon's smug face. Kooky groaned. The water was seeping through her skin, and because it was so cold, she was just getting stiffer. The entire experience made her want to gag, but Lemon was having fun. Lemon never has fun anymore. She sighed, giving in to the water's torment. At least Lemon was warm.
But then the bottom of the water hole began to rise, stopping at Kooky's feet. She was relieved that there was no way either of them could drown, but this meant Lemon had to let go, making her colder, and her clothes were soaking. Yeah, she was getting out.
She waded through until she reached the edge. "Aww leaving so soon?" Lemon teased, flopping on her back, and floating in the process. Kooky rolled her eyes, secretly amused by Lemon's sudden burst of energy.
But she knew it wouldn't last long. Lately, all Lemon could do was hide and be quiet. It infuriated Kooky how Lemon could just lie to her face all the time. She walked towards a large rock, large enough to sit on and started to wring out her clothes. At least her hair wasn't wet, that would take forever to dry.
Once she was done she decided to sun herself on the rock. She took off her blue flats and laid down on the warm stone, soaking in the warm rays. It was surprisingly comfortable and helped her keep warm. She looked back at the pool. Lemon was still floating on her back. Was that her way of being comfortable? Well, she would much rather lay on a rock than a small pool of that dreaded liquid. Water was for drinking, not whatever that was.
She smiled, resting her gaze on Lemon's aimless floating. She's going to get so sunburnt. She chuckled, looking away to the trees. They were still wet from the rain, but their glistening leaves only added to their beauty. They swayed in the breeze, whispering sweet words in her ears. This day was true bliss, and she wished it never ended.
