Long Way Home

Five months earlier.

I was exhausted, i'm pretty sure i forgot half the stuff i was support to bring with me. It was Christmas break at uni so i was flying back to sydney to see my family, I had just finished an overnight class and i was more the excited to fall asleep, getting onto the plane I shoved my carry on bag under my seat, grabbing my anatomy book I set it on my lap, thankful the seat next to me was empty. It was a final year at medical school and I was currently studying for my end of year exams to become an intern.

I grabbed my earphones before realising thats another thing i had forgotten, opening my book up to the most recent page, I tried to get as much as i could done before the plane left, as i took my notes i let out a slight groan as the seat beside me was now occupied. "Anatomy huh? is that high school bio?" the stranger asked, i laughed and shook my head. "no, I'm a fourth school medical student." He hummed and nodded before going back to his book.

I ignored the crying baby behind me as best as i could, my eyes became blurry as I looked to the jumbled words on my book, closing the book i rubbed my tired eye before drifting off to a deep sleep.

As we hit turbulence I immediately woke up, realising i had fallen asleep on the strangers shoulder, realising he had fallen asleep too "oh gosh! i'm so sorry" i gushed as he looked at me, he laughed and shook his head, "don't be sorry, we're practically married now, we napped together." I laughed softly, "Im Carter and you are?" i asked, it was only right to introduce myself, "Im Calum" he gave a smile, pulling his other earphone out.

The plane ride only had an hour till we landed so we both took this time to have a conversation, we exchanged numbers, As we landed i was slightly disappoint that we had to part ways but we both agreed to meet up for coffee before Christmas, i mean he was nice and hot, bonus points.

I grabbed my luggage before greeting my family. I gave my Dad and siblings hugs, we all got into the car and headed home, somewhere I hadn't been in months. I didn't have the best relationship with anyone in my family but we made it work with what we had.

Calum: Hows Sydney weather already treating you?

Cartier: its terrible and hot, i wanna go back to Melbourne, where its rainy.

We didn't talk much after that, i simply turned to my siblings and had a small conversation, it was hard to have a somewhat 'adult' conversation with a 15 year old and a 10 year old. Arriving home I smiled noticed my best friend Wren waiting outside for me.

Leaving all my stuff in the car i rushed out to hug her, "i thought you weren't coming back till new years!" I laughed as we held each other tightly, seeing each other for the first time in eight months. "anyway I have to catch you up on tell everything!" I smiled, making my way to my old room.

"He even said 'don't be sorry, we're practically married now, we napped together' do you know how embarrassing that is?" I laughed, shaking my head as we sat on my floor, "is he hot?" she questioned, i nodded and smiled softly "go get that d*ick babes" I threw a pillow at her before snorting.

"Carter do you know his last name? lets see if we can find his instagram so i can get some of this eye candy" I shrugged and shook my head, rolling my eyes at the word he called him. "I didn't get no last name but he did tell me he loved music, apparently he's in a band and he plays bass guitar but they made it as a joke- didn't get the name of that either- but he's got this amazing brown skin and his eyes oh god, anyone would've fallen in love with him as soon s they got their eyes on him" I giggled and fiddles with my fingers.

I looked to wren as her face went blank, she then quickly typed some words into her phone. "he said he'd take you for coffee?" I nodded and furrowed my eyebrows, "Carter don't, i'm serious- you don't want to get involved, please trust me on this." I set my bowl of ice-cream down and sighed. "no- wren its just coffee, whats he gonna do? kill me?" I laughed jokingly. "No but twenty thousand other people might." Groaning I laid flat on the ground, "not thus again, its no time for your jokes" I huffed.

I smiled at her in awe as she told me how her dreams with her singing was now being fulfilled, over the next week i spent time with both my family and wren, we all caught up with old friends but I was way to scared to message Calum, i told myself if he wanted to hangout he would ask but Wren being herself managed to get ahold of my phone.

Carter: Down for coffee, pretty boy? ;)

I looked at my phone as she threw it back to me. "Why would you do that!" she laughed and looked through my clothes. "you look like a loss puppy waiting for your owner to come get you so i obviously had to help, duh. "

Calum: pretty boy huh?  i can meet you at dennys in 10?

I looked at the screen and huffed, giving wren a death gar as she threw an outfit at me.

Cartier: sounds good, ill see you soon :)
