Long Way Home

It was safe to say I was anxious, I was pacing my door room back and fourth, i had finished my exams for the week and now i was looking at the envelope that held the answer to my future, but me being dumb i told myself i would open it when i got back to sydney, my week also consisted of sending all my belongings back to sydney. I had found a small apartment that Wren and I would move too, Wren had started to set my room up which i was thankful for.

Calum's and I's conversations were consistent and i was beyond excited to see him, Wren told me that her and ash had gotten a lot closer which was good, i was happy for them. After my whole hour flight back I met wren at the airport, exchanging hugs before grabbing my suitcase we headed back to her car as she went on about Ashton. 

"I haven't opened it yet" I told Wren as she asked me, hitting my arm she yelled at me, "Carter Elle Abrams!" I rubbed my arm and hit her back. "stop that hurt, ill do it at the house" I groaned.

"Yeah, whatever you sook" she huffed and looked at the road. "Plus theres a surprise at home and i know you'll love it!" I nodded slowly and looked to my phone telling Calum i had landed.

On the way to the apartment we stopped at my dads house to say hello, parking in her spot i grabbed my bag as i followed her into the elevator and upstairs. "So is my surprise that you finally brought me a fish?" Wren laugh and shook her head, I glared at her and opened the door with the key she had just given me, telling me 'i had to try it out' I giggled at her childish behaviour before opening the door. 

I was engulfed in hugs from Crystal and Sierra. "Welcome home, doctor" they giggled, i smiled and looked at the set up in the living room, I smiled as i saw the boys giving them all a hug each. "Not officially a doctor as i haven't even opened up my results" I told them as I gave Calum a quick kiss to his cheek smiling as he wrapped his arm around my waist. 

"Okay, okay- we brought drinks and snacks and pizza!, the girls demanded we had a movie night/ games night and the guys and I were forced to come" Luke explained, kissing sierras head. I smiled to myself as wren took my bags to my room for me. "And don't worry carter we brought you a vegetarian pizza for yourself." Mikey told me, sitting on the couch, I thanked him for thinking of me as he ordered it. 

Sierra, Crystal and Wren all sat on my bed as i unpacked everything, they filled me in on all the drama and gossip for the week i was gone. "Cal missed you" Crystal told me, I smiled lightly and zipped up my empty bag, slipping it under my bed i left my smaller bags for later, i took a sip from my drink and hummed. "If i'm being honest, i missed him but we'll all have a talk about that later- lets go eat because i'm starving" They all nodded in agreement, I took a seat on the couch between Luke and Calum. 

Hearing Ash and Mikey about some game I scrunched my nose up, looking to the screen as i ate my pizza. "So, Carter when are you going to open your letter?" Luke asked from beside me, i shrugged and looked towards him. "Im not entirely sure, I actually might go do that now, i cant hold off for any longer as i've gotta send my applications into the hospitals" I sighed and got up, grabbing the letter i headed outside.

Setting my drink on the table i watched as Calum and Wren also came outside to have a cigarette, cringing slightly as i wanted to be alone I opened the slightly crumbled letter, my eyes scanned over the words, my heart dropping, i failed. I failed by one point, one fu*king point. Forcing a smile onto my face, I quickly moved back inside trying to blink back the tears that formed, wiped my eyes as i reached the kitchen i poured myself a stronger drink as i placed the paper under a few magazines.

"Soo..?" They all looked at me, I panicked and forced a smile. "i passed!" they all exclaimed, taking a drink from their own cups, i watched as cal and wren walked back in hearing the news, i quickly drowned my drink before pouring myself another one. 

A few cups later and I could already feel the effect on my body, i hadn't eaten much and i knew thats partly why i'm getting drunk faster then usual. I leaned against cal as he spoke to mikey about the game they were playing. "lets play never have i ever!" Wren shot up from her seat, i groaned and slouched into my chair, hearing Calum chuckle at my movements i frowned. "If you don't put a finger down, you have to take a shot." She grabbed the shot glasses and alcohol  from the kitchen as ashton moved the coffee table so we could all sit in a circle. 

"I'll start" Wren smiled, handing everyone their drinks. "first one out has to go skinny dipping in the pool!" I made a face of disgust before holding my fingers up. "Never have I ever toured before." Everyone besides me and wren out a finger down, I smiled to myself as i was in a state of mind. 

It was now ash's turn, seeing as he was beside her. "Never have i ever done drugs" I frowned and took a shot, generally embarrassed Calum looked at me and i sighed, giving an 'ill tell you later' look. Similar questions were asked and Mikey and I both had one finger left, and let me tell you i wasn't about to go skinny dipping. 

"Never have I ever had a dog before" I smirked as Mikey put his last finger down, i did a happy dance in the spot as he lost. "Wow, cant believe you've done me dirty" He laughed standing up with crystal, everyone got up besides me, I honestly believed i was too drunk to move. "its okay guys, go on without me" I told them as i poured myself another drink. 

"Are you sure?" Wren asked and i nodded watching as they left, cal kissed my forehead before leaving, ashton whispered something to wren before sitting beside me, I looked to the cup in my hands and sighed, the smile dropping from my face. "Are you okay, Carter?" Ash asked from beside me, i nodded slowly and bit my lip- hating those three words. "i'm good, yeah." I lifted my cup to my lips as i drank the liquid. 

"I don't believe you" He told me, i shrugged and grabbed the bottle of vodka, I rubbed my eyes as i heard screaming and laughing outside, taking a swing I looked at him. "I lied, i didn't pass- and the funny thing about it? i failed, i failed by one point" I laughed, shaking my head. "How pathetic is that?" i giggled and looked at the bottle in my hands, hearing everyone walk back inside I stood, "you guys should've watched that!" Luke laughed, i walked to the kitchen, placing the bottle on the counter i ran my hands through my hair.

"Wren" I mumbled, pulled her aside as she walked pass me, "Yeah? what's up, are you okay?" I shrugged and looked to everyone in the living room, "i'm fine- i'm just going to head to bed, m'kay, everyone is welcome to stay here- they've all been drinking so don't let anyone leave" I told her, i grabbed my letter and headed to my room, i plopped down on my bed and stared at the ceiling till i heard my door open, seeing Calum i smiled and sat up.

"Hi" I whispered, pulling my shoes off as i decided to shower. "you're drunk" he told me, i nodded and licked my dry lips, "thank you captain obvious" i giggled, looking to him as he sat beside me. "Ashton told me" he muttered, i groaned and laid down, not wanting to hear any of this. "is that why you drank so much tonight?" i nodded and bit my lip as my eyes watered. 

Calum laid with me as i cried, i felt like a failure- i had worked so hard for this, one stupid point and i would've been okay, i would've gotten the job of my dreams. "i'm sorry- i'm a mess" i tried to laugh through my tears, closing my eyes as he wiped them away for me. "You're not a mess, carr, you'll get through this and ill be here every step, m'kay?" I smiled softly and nodded, gently kissing him- not knowing where this boost of confidence came from. Cal pulled away, catching his breath, "lets get you to sleep yeah?"

Changing into calums shirt from the one he gave me for new years, i crawled under the covered into his arms, falling asleep not long after.
