Eugene
The party was in full swing. Ethan and I were enjoying the party considering no one knew who we were. We could dance and be a couple without worrying about being watched. Most of the people were too drunk to realize anyway.
That reminded me of Veronica. She always used to get blackout drunk during these. It was strange, not seeing her at the party but I had all reason to assume she wasn’t here. I had seen her steaming after we broke up. Or technically, after I dumped her. But recently, she’s been leaving me alone. Maybe she realized we weren’t good for each other.
Which meant, I could enjoy myself next to Ethan, who was looking mighty fine in his masquerade outfit. Grinning, I pulled my boyfriend close as we danced amongst other partygoers.
That smile on his face drove me crazy. It was slightly slanted and showed off his teeth in that perfect way. It had a hint of flirtiness in it, which was also driving me insane. “Is it hot in here? Or is it just me?” I joked with a chuckle.
Ethan grinned before he responded, barely missing a beat, “Oh, you’re hot all right. But it’s pretty steamy in here. Want to get some air?”
Ethan, you can’t be saying things like that.
Taking his hand, I led him out of the room and outside. We passed by all the teens who were wasted on the lawn, too drunk to keep themselves from face planting. Ethan stepped over them carefully as we made our way towards the side of the house. We stopped by one of those metal boxes with a large fan inside it. I just didn’t care to remember what they were called.
Ethan pulled me down and pressed his lips to mine.
It didn’t matter if we were outside, things would still be steamy.
My lips slowly moved against his as his fingers found their way to my hair. My hands found his waist as I held him in place. This may sound cheesy, but I swear it was like fireworks sounding in my ears. I could practically feel the flash of color on my face, and the booming of the base from the party helped with the effect. Closer I pressed, taking in the scent of Ethan’s shampoo and a hint of aftershave. I don’t even notice the alcohol on his breath, even though we were both tipsy.
By now, Ethan was pressed against the metal box, slightly leaning back. To make it easier on him, I lifted him to sit on the fan. We took that moment to breathe. His cheeks were tinted pink, from what I could see from under that mask. Slowly, I pushed the mask up into his hair so I could see his face. Those blue-grey eyes found mine.
When I first met Ethan, his eyes were originally grey and dull. Probably from feeling down and high all the time. Knowing that I had at least some part in bringing back that beautiful color sent a warm buzz to my skin. Needing to close the distance, I cupped Ethan’s cheek and kissed him again. Those fireworks exploded in my mind again. Ethan’s fingers found a new place on my jacket as he held onto me, essentially preventing himself from falling backward.
Slowly we began to get more entangled, and dare I say, heated. We were pressed together and the warmth we emitted was enough to hide the cold of fall. My lips moved against his and I realized he tasted like cherries.
Weird I know.
But the alcohol we were drinking was mixed with cherry soda.
Either way, he tasted delicious.
I moved to adjust my head and apparently, he had the same idea, because soon we bonked each other's heads. We both leaned back. Ethan groaned slightly and my hand found my head, checking for a bump.
I caught Ethan making a peculiar face. His cheeks were red and his lips were twisted as if he was trying to hold back a laugh. Thinking about this, I realized it was funny. The alcohol was helping to make a lot of things funny. Either way, we both erupted into laughter and it probably took at least five minutes for us to calm down.
With receding chuckles, our foreheads rested against each other and we sat in silence, a soft smile on both of our faces. Ethan’s foggy breath clashed with my own and for a moment, we just soaked up whatever quiet we could.
Ethan slowly cupped my cheek and he leaned up to kiss my forehead. He smiled softly, “Let’s get back to the party.”
Smiling I help fix his mask and hair before stealing another kiss. Ethan giggled and hopped down, flashing me that slanted smile.
God, that smile.
“We’ll come back out here when we need a break.” he winked before dragging me back inside.
Like that, we continued this for the rest of the night. Dance. More dance. Before we came back out here to ‘cool off’. By the time we were ready to leave, we were both heavily buzzed. We used the short walk to my house to sober up a little so my mom didn’t have to lecture us.
As quietly as we could, we snuck into the house and up to my bedroom.
Ethan plugged in his phone to charge and proceeded to hang up his jacket. He dropped the mask on my desk and, you guessed it, stole another one of my hoodies.
He had a pleased grin on his face as he plopped down on my bed. Smiling I pecked his lips, “I have to go wash off this makeup. I’ll be back in a little bit.”
My boyfriend hummed his response and I walked to the bathroom, after grabbing something to change into, before I quickly used makeup remover to get rid of whatever my mom put on my face. I changed into sweatpants and a shirt before I walked over to the bed, only to find Ethan out cold.
I took a moment to admire him. His slightly outgrown hair had dipped into his face and he was curled up in my large hoodie. He looked so precious and I couldn’t resist my urge to take a picture. Shortly after, I crawled in beside him. I was partly taken off guard when Ethan rolled into my side. He snuggled up against my chest and I wanted to reach for my phone to take another picture but I quickly decided against it.
This was so intimate and pure. Call me greedy, but I wanted to be the only one who saw this side of him.
Wrapping my arms around him, I pulled him as close as he could get, tangling our legs together. I didn’t realize how tired I was until I was lying down. I’m pretty sure the instant my head hit the pillow, if fell asleep.
